Just curious, has anyone been successful booking anything other than CL for the poly or CR?

I'm being told that although there are non-CL rooms available for my dates (marathon weekend) the DV discount is only applicable to CL.

I was told by a CM that many plan and horde the standard/garden view rooms at the Deluxes (GF, BC, Poly) back in July so they can apply the discount once it's released. She says it's always the first rooms to go.

But there are rooms available... Just not at a discount. That makes me think that only CL is elligible, so those folks who pre-booked won't be able to use the discount anyway.

Why do people do this? Unless you're planning to stay somewhere regardless of the cost it seems to me this would work against you. If Disney sees they're filling up at rack rates aren't they less likely to offer discounts on these rooms?

Smallsy, I replied a little earlier, but in case you missed it: perhaps it is the dates you need. We pre-booked at CR, Garden Wing, Deluxe because we really wanted a room with a king sized bed and an additional sleeper-sofa. I called this morning and was able to apply 35% discount. We are going last week of February. Keep trying -- you never know what may open.

Wait!!! So AKL standard view rooms are discounted??? And at 35%??? Woohoo!!!:woohoo: Thanks, Black!!!

I thought that this wasn't really allowed, that you were not allowed to "apply" the discount, you had to cancel and rebook?

Don't you think Disney knows historically how many people pre-book only to change/cancel when discounts are released? They do require a deposit in order to make a reservation and I bet that helps to discourage some.

Yes indeed it is, a nice surprise after rumors of not being discounted at all. Sadly there were other not so nice surprises, like the ones at 5% that some rumored to be much much more.

I prefer to wait until I have decent facts before posting these room discounts because they are so varied, and different among resorts, room types, and is many other variables. Free dining and package plans are easier, since they only involve one or two excluded resorts. With the room discounts you have to contend with trying to keep up with all the different percentages...enough to make you crazy. I wish people wouldn't post things like "deluxe resorts at 35% and moderates at 25%" without qualifying the many variables, exclusions, etc... Some had their hearts set on French quarter and movies, which only gets 5%.

Better to be correct than it is to be first. :thumbsup2

Oh, and Mousesavers now has this info posted as well...except they list the Grand Californian, typo? :confused3

Also nothing but Pool/Lagoon View available for 2/5/14-2/14/14 at YC :(

Not at all. If you are putting a package discount onto a package they can just modify it (pending availability). You would have to cancel and rebook to go from a RO res to a package or the opposite.

When we booked back in July we did not even have a Disney Visa card. I asked at the time of booking if we could apply any discounts that may come forward. The CM told me yes. I then applied for a Disney Visa and attached it to our profile. This morning when I called they were happy to apply the Disney Visa discount to our reservation. I will say we would likely have changed our resort had we not gotten a discount. In return, Disney got the use of our $200 for 3 months, Disney/Chase have a new credit card holder and our tickets came directly from Disney and not a discounted reseller like Undercover Tourist. BTW, it is the same reservation number and we added an additional day.

Right, pending availability. It's no better to have the room beforehand.

There are lots of reports of CMs telling people incorrect information. If you get one of those calls, just call back and talk to someone else.
