Keep in mind that the door will still open somewhat when using the latch. That itself can be very disconcerting.

Been over 25 times and twice since these started. I'm fine with it. It has worked for me. I will keep doing it. And hey, if they would happen to knock and interrupt something in my room, I have no qualms at all answering the door in whatever I am or am not wearing!

How can that happen if using a deadbolt and latch? Understand that management can do it, but housekeeping?????? They must want to get in the room REAL BAD!

When we arrived in our room the first day, the latch was broken and hanging off the wall in our room in Raratonga at the Polynesian.

I guess someone didn’t want their room checked and “security” forced their way in.

Wow. A disadvantage for the next guest. We always use a deadbolt and latch at any resort for security, so I would have tried to request another room.

This was our 25th Anniversary trip. I had made very specific requests for the room and they accommodated me, so I really didn’t want to give up my room. Also, we had an accident on our way down and lost many belongings including our engraved Lenox crystal champagne flutes. I was very grateful to be alive and just wanted vacation to begin.

Under different circumstances, we would have asked them to repair it or move us to another room.

Exactly. Do what works for you and that is al that matters. Funny you mentioned what u were wearing. If they want to walk up and knock..and we doing whatever we are doing. Lol. They’ll see a show. I ain’t shy!! But seriously. Not sure why folks care about this. Let them walk in. Who cares... although we have never had an issue either.

Hey, I’m just spitballing. I walked in my room after an extremely traumatic experience on the road, half of my belongings burned beyond recognition, and when I saw the latch dangling there I thought, “Wow, security must have really wanted to enter this room.”

That was my gut reaction. If I was incorrect then whatever. Perhaps an intruder broke it. Maybe someone loosened it with a screwdriver just for kicks. Who knows? It makes no difference to me either way.

Thanks. We were pretty shaken up. I’m still bothered by the memories of the ordeal.

When we stepped into the Polynesian the stress of the day just fell away. We made a pact to focus on the beauty of it all, the Hawaiian music, the smells. We really had a special vacation and celebration of our 25 year marriage when all was said and done.

I am pretty sure that if Security actually forces a door and breakers the latch off.
The report it and have it repaired.
FYI hotel security has a tool that can be used to unlock the latch in an emergency.

You would think so, but it was broken the entire week we were there. Probably if we complained they would have addressed it.
