Is there a way to set two separate accounts up for the same stateroom so that when I charge something it goes to a set amount of money that I put on the stateroom account and when someone else in my stateroom charges something it goes to a different amount of money for them?

Each room key (used also for charging) can have it's own form of payment. That is, each one can have separate form of payments (different credit cards, for example). If you're asking about having different cash amounts, I'm not sure.

I believe if you set the account to "cash" you stop by periodically and pay it down. Each of you can stop by (together or separately) maybe each evening to pay your own charges.

That's the thing though. I don't want to have charges coming from the same pool of money. I don't want to try to figure it out and "balance a checkbook register" every day. I'd rather have guest services set up one account for one of us and another account for the other one of us. Any charges I make come from my pool of money any charges they make come from their pool of money.

Charges are by Guest so it is fairly easy to figure out who owes how much. However I don't know that you can do what you want with a straight cash account. You definitely can do it with a credit card -- each adult set-up their own credit (or debit) card -- and then go to Guest Services to pay down the charges with your cash before it gets put through to the credit card.

Also be aware that a cash account doesn't mean you plunk down $200 cash and they shut off charging after that amount is spent. DCL will shut off charging but only after charges reach a certain amount owed (which may depend on length of cruise) over and above the cash you put down.

We will both be using a card instead of putting cash on our account.

How does a Disney gift card work? Let's say I add a $200 Disney GC to the account. How does that work with charges on board and Guest Services?

You still need to set up the onboard account as “cash” or backed by s credit card. Then you can take the gift card to Guest Services to apply it. Charges will go against the gift card before a credit card is charged.

That’s easy, then. At some point in online check-in, you supply your travel info AND designate how your onboard charges are covered. You will designate who the first guest is responsible for, for charges. Supply credit card #.

I take this to mean your cabin is using more than one card? No problem.

Add to previous post, charges are deducted in this order: non-refundable onboard credit, refundable onboard credit (like gift cards if applied to room), then designated payment (credit card on file, then cash).

The limit before they cut off charging privileges is $400 or $500.

I like to avoid visiting Guest Services (saving vacation time) - and I like to use a Disney Gift Card. So I make a gift to myself through the DCL website (Maybe app works for this, too). It’s under Already Booked > Onboard Gifts > Onboard Credit (found through = at top left corner).

That puts the money in my account. You can designate it a specific guest.

If it doesn’t get used, any remaining funds go back to that same card (so keep that info).

We had a shared multiple cabins with another family. They placed their child’s charges to apply towards a gift card. She just had to set it up at guest services.

Adults in another stateroom can set a minor’s account to be the responsibility of the parent’s stateroom and however their account is set. You can apply a gift card, but “gift card” is not a specific option to back the account. Most likely the child’s account was backed by the parents’ credit card but they also applied the gift card to be used first.

I didn't know you could gift yourself OBC. Thanks!

It’s hard to find where you do this. Just load your reservation, click on Onboard Gifts and when you get to the gifts page, click on Shop by Categories and you’ll find the link. Took me 20 minutes to find it the first time.

I feel like at online check in I had to check off whether the card I had tied to my account was for everyone in the stateroom or not.

Yes, you do. You can set up one credit card for everyone in the stateroom, or do various combinations of credit cards/charging abilities.

For example, I sail with my parents. I set up my onboard account to charge to my credit card. I set up my mom's onboard account to charge to my parents' credit card. I set up my mom to be 'responsible' for my dad's onboard account (therefore, it is also charged to their credit card).

So you can definitely set it up to have your credit card apply to all accounts in the stateroom (or not).

oh yes
You can definitely do that. I had my account, my husband put cash on his account and my mom had gifted the kids with a Disney gift card that we put on each of their accounts. It can be a bit confusing but they are truly masters of this!
Just take your time at the Guest Services- they will do it for you! And they are open 24 hours so you can check up on it at any point-

Yes you can. I put my Disney Visa on the room and pay for the majority of the charges. When I do check in I input my adult kids credit cards to their KTTW card so they can use it to for their own individual expenses.

Keep in mind all tips for each person get applied to each person’s account/payment (unless you prepay).
