This is our first cruise and now that I am getting closer, I am having more and more questions. This question is in regards to charges to your room and how you pay for them. I think I know how it works. You register a credit card and if your balance reaches $500 it automatically goes against your card, but you can go and pay your balance with cash before the $500 charge would happen. Is this correct?

If you use a debit card, I believe that they will hold like $500 on your acct, is this true, or is it more or less money.

I really don't want to use a credit card, but I don't want DCL to hold money against my debit card either. I guess I can go daily and pay my balance before my card gets charged if that is possible.

Thanks for you help everyone :D

I am not sure about the debit card, the but charge card info is correct except I think the amount is $400 that gets charged automatically when it reaches that amount.

I had checked my statement from our January 7 day cruise and they definately charged my Amex when my account hit $400.

We used our debit card in December. They didn't pre-authorize or put any kind of hold on the card.

You can pay cash to your room account anytime you want, so yes, if you go to guest services prior to hitting the magic number of $400 then you'll avoid the CC getting charged.

You can also elect to simply do things on a cash basis entirely. The only drawback to this is that your KTTW card will stop working when you hit $400 owed - but a quick trip to guest services to pay them some money will take care of that problem.

If I go put $400 down when I first get on the boat, I don't have to put a cc. I do understand that my card will not work if I run out of cash. Do I tell them that I want to just use cash, no cc?

That would be my ultimate goal, to just go give them cash when I first get on and use it until it ends.

Thanks everyone!

When you check-in, tell them that you want to use cash to pay for room charges. Your room charge account will then have a credit limit of $400 (without you providing any cash at all).

If you go to guest services on the ship and hand them an additional $400 in cash, your KTTW card will now have a credit limit of $800 (your $400 in cash and the original $400 limit that they gave you). You can add on cash anytime you want.

You do not have to provide a credit card; however, this method does require that you stop by guest services on your last monring in order to settle your account (either pay them what you owe, or get a refund if you have some cash leftover).
