My family will be taking our first cruise January 18, 2004 on the Disney Wonder.

I've heard that instead of a credit card, you can put $500 down in TC, cash, Disney Dollars on your Key to the World Card. Is that per person in the stateroom or per stateroom?

My other questions refers to my brother's kids. They will be 7, 10, 12, 14. Do you allow your children to keep their own room key if they have no charging privileges? Can you set a specific amount they are allowed on each card? How safe is it for them to wander off on their own on the ship?

TIA,

Congratulation on your first cruise.

The KTTW card will be charged to the credit card once $400 is reached. I belive you will need a credit card when you check in. You can however to settle your account with cash at the end of the trip. You can only set the KTTW card to charge or not. No limit can be set. Each kid will have a card. We kept our DS 7 card, while our DS 10 had his own card so that he can check out of the kids club. Depends how comfortable you feel allowing the kids to carry thier own card. A word of caution, if you allow charging on the card and it is lost, there is a risk of extra charges to your account.

Children cannot leave the ship without an adult. When you leave the ship you will need the KTTW for all and IDs for the adults.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the info.

What we really want to know is how many kids onboard (not in the port) run around on their own? Should the 10 & 12 yo be supervised or is it ok to let them go of on their own?

Thanks,

Jennifer -- I was wanting to know the same thing!
My kids want to be able to roam a little w/ a sibling or
on their own somewhat......guess I will make my decision when we get there and as I see fit. We have been on a NCL cruise w/ out our kids and I felt like it would have been save at thier ages to let them.

My son (16 ) was wondering if there was a curfew......even if there isn't......we will have our own curfew. I don't want them
wandering around at night too much. But, we are strict.
Or at least that is what our kids tell us! LOL!

Okiemomx5, funny you should bring up the curfew thing. There isn't one posed by DCL. Although the teen activities end between 1 & 2 based on what I've read.

This will be our first cruise with teens and they WILL have curfews - earlier for the 13 year old than the almost 16 year old and they may vary night to night depending on what is happening.

On past cruises the kids were 8 & 10 and 10 & 12. Both were allowed some freedom. The 12 year old hooked up with a buddy right on the first afternoon. Since they were always together they had a bit more freedom. On the first cruise neither had sign in and out privileges but were allowed to go from diningroom to stateroom, etc. without us as the situation warranted. For instance on the first cruise son started to get a little queasy at Parrot Cay and we let him walk up to deck on his own. We should have gone with him that time! He stood and watched dolphins playing alongside the ship!

A lot depends on how much freedom they are used to, your comfort level, etc.
