First time coming up at SSR and first time getting accessible room for my Mother. Looking for any advise on what building/section to request.

We're in a H/Cap studio. We'll have a scooter, probably eat in the food court, maybe the sit down. DD and I will hit the main pool. We're more likely to drive to DTD but probably would do bus to parks. We'll get to the resort by noon for check in.

With that critera, what section and building would anyone recommend?

Also, would it be advisable to call reservations to confirm that we've got the accessible room and make building/section request?

Thanks, Sharon

What kind of accessibility does she need?
There are different types of accessible rooms.
Some are fully wheelchair accessible and have roll in showers, raised seat toilets with grab bars and roll under sinks. Since you are staying in a studio, the roll under sink would include the kitchenette and also a lower microwave.

Some handicapped studio rooms have a regular tub with grab bars and a raised seat toilet.

The 'footprint' of the room is the same, whether it is accessible or not, so if you are asking for an accessible room because you think it will have more room for her to move around with the ECV, that won't be the case.

If your confirmation sheet says "Handicapped Room", you might want to check what type of handicapped room you have a reservation for. They actually block that handicapped rooms when the reservation is made (although they won't usually tell you where the room is).

If you don't actually need the features of the handicapped rooms, you may be better off just requesting the area you are interested in. There are studios in every building, and there are elevators in each building, so you could get to any floor. There are limited numbers of handicapped rooms, and if all the handicapped studios in the area you are interested in are already assigned when you get there, you may not have much choice of location.
