We are considering becoming members, but we have concern over the availability of rooms. We sure don't want to plunk down over $10,000.00 for vacations only to be irritated because the rooms are not available when we want them. We don't believe we will be able to make reservations very early, so what are the chances of getting what we want at the last minute? Say 2 weeks to 1 month out???

That short of notice will sometimes get you a room and at busier DVC times, it likely won't. What really matters is the length of stay you would be looking for and how flexible the dates will be and how flexible you are on the resort you stay at.

If you expect to travel in Sept, Jan, or the middle of the summer, you will usually be able to get something for a few days, and probably as long as you need if you don't mind switching resorts and/or rooms in the middle of your stay.

DVC works best for those that are able to plan ahead. The eleven month window is a valuable thing and may become more valuable as years progress. If you mind hit and miss chances at you vacation, it may not be a good idea.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs", Karl Marx, pretty sick, huh?

2 weeks to 1 month out is pretty tight planning for any Disney vacation. My guess is that most times you would get something but it would have be whatever is available in terms of room size and resort. You would be picking up cancellations for the most part. Any villas that aren't booked by members at 60 days out Disney starts to rent out to anyone since empty rooms aren't good for them or for members. If you truly plan all your vacations at 2-3 weeks then maybe DVC isn't right for you. If it's an occassional trip at that time period that can be done.
