Room Assignments - when are those given out?

Ok, I have heard that room assignments are given out 3 days prior to arrival. However, can you find out your room assignment before you arrive? Say by calling 1-3 days before you get there?

I know there have been times where they 'upgrade/fulfill' requests once you check-in. How are they able to do this if they have already assigned rooms before you get there?

I'm not sure when they make the assignments but when we were at the Poly in September they had a room already assigned for us when we checked in. They told us they were upgrading us to a Lagoon view for our honeymoon but the room would not be ready until 3:00, (it was about 11:30) They then told us we could have a different room that would be ready now but it was just a standard view garden room. We ended up taking the room that was ready because the view was not that important to us and we wanted to go unpack. This is a VERY long-winded way of saying that it appeared that our room assignment had been done before we arrived, but was still flexible.

If there is a particular view/room that you want, I would just call CRO now and ask them to note it on your reservation. I've done it in the past, and the people at the front desk have acknowledged my request and have read it to me while I was checking in.

And as tlev mentioned, it's not set in stone. Once we were checking into WL and I requested a higher floor (w/ CRO when I made the ressie), and they gave me a choice of waiting for something on the higher floor that wasn't ready yet, or taking something on a lower floor that was ready (I waited for the higher floor).

I don't think they will tell you your room number in advance since it can't truly be guaranteed until you are actually checking in.

They won't tell you your room number until your room is clean and ready to be occupied. Until you check in and pay that room can be assigned to someone else. They do it for several reasons, one being the person in the room before may decide to extend their stay.

They may have a room assigned for you but when you get there you could make a request for something else and you may get someone else's assigned room.
