what is the way they have been assigning rooms, is it the earlier you check in the better choice you get, or does it not matter. Usually we arrive earlier in the day, but we planning on arriving at 4pm this time because we have a new baby and would like to get in our room right away, thanks!

In my experience, the rooms seem to be preassigned. Believe it's because BWV is often at or very near capacity.

That said, it's certainly possible that not all of the rooms are pre-assigned and also possible that some pre-assigments get changed. However, I believe those to be the exception rather than the rule. JMHO.

Make sure your requests are on the reservation and listed in the order of importance to you. That's about all you can do. The rest is luck of the draw.

Best wishes -

I don't think that BWV does a first come first served but a preassigned. We were there a week ago and asked for top floor boardwalk view, made reservation for BV view right at 11month, day by day. We arrived at 2PM, room not ready, finally got it at 4:30 just what we wanted. We got rooms 5015 and 5017 right over Big River, top floor, with a GREAT view of the area. So I think the key is book early and make your request at time of booking.

That has been my experience also at BWV, rooms are preassigned. But the one time we stayed at BWI the night before and I checked in about 10:00am. Our room was not ready and I asked where it was located. It was first floor (standard view), I had requested fireworks view, which you would assume would be an upper floor. I asked if they had any top floor and she found us a great room. It wasn't ready until 4:00pm, but it was perfect. I think it was 4103, across from the bus stop, great fireworks view. So it pays to get there early and see if anything else is available.

I also agree that rooms are pre-assigned. When we went last month, I had called the morning of arrival to check on something else. Then I asked if they thought it would be possible to keep the studio we had for the first night, for the rest of our trip and just open up the lockoff so we had the 2 bedroom without having to move our stuff. She put me on hold and came back and said my rooms had already been assigned that way. This was about 10 hours prior to arrival, so they were definitely pre-assigned.

Too funny. We had requested non-smoking (medical reasons), upper floor and any sort of illuminations view (so far from elevators on Std view side). We made this ressie at 11 months, day-by-day, just as RAD did. What we got was non-smoking (yay) first floor, close to elevators, with a view of the backside of Leaping Horse Libations and Luna Park - pretty close to the opposite. DW had wanted Std view so there would be no chance of overlooking the pool. Oops! Interestingly, this was Std view. We also got a HC unit, which was not a good fit for us at all: even tho our 7 yr old DS is wheelchair-bound, a roll in shower is the worst possible way to bathe him, as it takes both parents to keep the slippery 53 lb boy on my lap on the shower seat and DW passes me soap and shampoo, etc and helps me get him into towels afterward. Fortunately, we had a 2BR and used the big tub the night before our friends arrived, and the day after they left. In future, we will be requesting a tub in the studio portion for medical reasons. ::yes::

Food & Wine and Super Soaps meant there were no other options for us. It worked fine, and first floor location meant easy access to the BW, and the pool location meant that I could bring my DW a margarita from the pool bar right to the sliding door (not a lot of privacy tho). So, we did not get upper floor even tho we reserved 11 months out. They undoubtedly assigned things way in advance, and fit us in with all the other folks coming in. Next year we have BW view reserved, so we're (hoepfully) sure to get some illuminations view then.

Sometimes the magic works, sometime it doesn't. Our prior trip there was also book at 11 months and we had a group of 5 rooms, four preferred view, one standard. We ended up with the same view you had, except one floor up, a but disappointed. But a bad day at WDW is better then a good day at most anywhere else:)

Well, we had a different experience on our October visit. We stayed the night before at CSR and checked into the BWV around 9 a.m. on a Sunday. Our CM was being trained and she had a helper CM. Our room was not preassigned. We heard all the "training" details. The CM was able to pull up a list of all the rooms that people were checking out of that day. Then, she looked for a room that fit our requests - we had a 1 BR standard booked, wanted non-smoking and top floor. She found us a great room. Just what we asked for and more. We had a lovely room with a view of the lawn/front drive/bus stop (it was standard) that overlooked the BWI and had a view of the top fireworks from Illumination (not that we were in our room at night). We also had a large balcony that was opened. It was great! It was a bit of a walk to the elevator. We quickly discovered a stairway that opened up very near the pool that we used.

(Just a note, our room was not ready when we checked in. We went to MGM and checked back in about 4 and it was ready then).
