Hi all. We cruise next month on our first Disney Cruise on the Wonder. We booked OGT and finally got our room assignment today in room 1056. I can't really find much on this stateroom but I was wondering if anyone has cruised on Deck 1 on the Wonder before and how they liked it?

I'm not going to lie, I'm less than thrilled about the room assignment. I know that is the risk you take with a guarantee booking. And I know we will have a wonderful vacation regardless. I just want to prepare myself for what to expect.

Thanks for any insight!

May I ask why you're "less than thrilled"?

Here's a link to room reports (a bit old, and from the Magic, but the rooms don't change that much) - https://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/roomreport.cfm?Room=1056

I saw some of those room reports and also looked at rooms near ours and it seems like there may be some noise issues. Also, I guess it just kinda feels like we got stuck in the basement. Maybe it will be totally fine. That's why I'm looking for experiences from people who have been on the 1st floor before.

I was just down the hall on Magic on my first cruise; it is the same layout. For the most part, I doubt that you will have any issues with the room. There aren't as many staterooms down there, so you don't get as much traffic in the hallways. Only noise that we encountered was in the mornings when the ship was pulling into port; I heard a low rumble that I assumed was associated with the maneuvering thrusters. Not loud enough to wake you up but noticeable when you are awake. (But again, only when pulling in/out of port.)

Only other negative was that the elevators don't operate like elevators in the rest of the free world. ;) Typically, when elevators are going down, they keep going down if a lower floor has called for an elevator and then go back up once there is no call on a lower floor. We noticed that most elevators would stop at the 3rd deck with the restaurants and then go back up to the main floors instead of continuing down to the 2nd and 1st deck. You could wait a long time watching elevators showing they were coming down to deck 3 and then turning around and going back up; the elevator controls only let a few random elevators make it down to us during peak use times. We just got used to walking up to deck 3, and then we ended up almost exclusively using the stairs, even to go from deck 1 to deck 9. (Helped to keep us from gaining too much weight on the cruise!!)

I haven't sailed on deck 1, but I do remember delivering a fish extender gift to a room on deck 1 of the Wonder. It was cleaning time & a stateroom door in that hallway was wide open for the steward to go back and forth, so we glanced in from the hallway. The room was just as nice as our room on deck 5, and we liked the double windows. The hallway itself was also very quiet.
