Room accomodation requests process broken on WDW site?

We booked last night for a stay at POR in March. Paid extra for the Royal Riverview rooms because our son has CP and uses a walker to walk, so being as close as possible is key for us. As we were finalizing the reservation process last night there was a page though for special requests (we'd really appreciate a ground floor room to avoid stairs or having to walk down to the elevator and back), but the text box or whatever else was supposed to be there on the site wasn't working, the only thing it would let you do was select if you wanted adjoining rooms. Has anyone else seen this issue? Is there a way to make a request online after the reservation is made without waiting for a long time on the telephone lines? Or are we likely OK if we just make the request when we do the early online check-in?

Last year we booked through AAA and they were able to put in a request and we had a perfect room at Art of Animation where our son could use his walker to get to the pool and food court. DS spends enough time in the stroller in the parks out of necessity, so it was great for him to be up and moving on his own at least some. Hoping that the Disney magic strikes again.

I would ask this question on the DISabilities board. I believe there is a special phone number you can call whereas your requests are health related. They may be able to tell you which number you should call.

The PO resorts are the last ones where you can fax in requests about a week out from your reservation. until then, calling is the way to do it.

I'm not sure that's the best spot to be in, if you want to be the closest to food and buses. Maybe pose the question on the POR thread here to make sure that's TRULY what you want?

We had a Royal Riverview and we had to walk all the way to the side, then back to find the stairs to the pathway down. If we had been on the first floor, since we don't walk through grasses when at WDW for fear of slithering critters, we still would have had a ways to walk before we got to the path to get to the, hmm, path to food etc.

And buses are either at the front of the resort or back beyond the parking lots, which are the opposite way from the front of the resort (at least when thinking of the Royal rooms).

The preferred rooms, which are generally the way to get close to services, are NOT the Royal rooms.

Here's a link to the POR fax request:

The online check-in includes check boxes for things like ground floor, highest floor, corner room. I agree with PP who said you might be better off with a Preferred room, which are guaranteed closest to the main building and feature pool. Some Royal Rooms aren't too far, but some could be a hike. If you really want a RR, your best option is to check off ground floor when you do online check-in and send requests with an explanation via fax about 5 days in advance of your arrival. We stayed in a RR in the Oak Manor building. It was a great location. Our walking time to everything was about the same as the Preferred room we had the previous year. The Royal Rooms are fun. My son loved the fireworks headboards, Aladdin's "Magic Carpet" and Genie lamp faucets.

We typically wait till online check in to request specifics. When you do that, I would just suggest checking ground floor. Then reiterating it when you you physically check in.

I had this issue as well - the area for requests is greyed out and I couldn't make any request at all. It has ground floor clicked as a default and that isn't what we want. Ah well..

A few trips ago we took my parents and my Mom had just had knee surgery. I called to requestground floor and close to lobby/transportation, and was told that when requests are medically necessary there is a separate number to call. I didn't take note of it because while my Mom was still moving a bit slow, she had no Dr note, etc. We ended up getting the requests granted, however, which was awesome. Sounds like you could find this number and get the best room for you and your guy, OP. Good luck, and have a magical trip!
