Ronda's STOP SHOPPING support group thread

Okay, I will admit, I am about to purchase the West Wing Complete Series on Amazon.com. I have wanted it since it first came out - but resisted because, well, I couldn't justify spending the money.

I'm asking NOT to be talked out of this, because... we got gift cards as incentives at work today, and swapped and swapped and swapped with each other... I ended up with $50 at one restaurant, and $125 in Amazon gift certificates.

But if anybody wants to try to get me to change my mind...

(not Rhonda but putting on my elf hat!)

How many times will you really watch that series? Over and over? If not, you can get netflix for, what, $8.99 a month, and get each season at a time. Be done with it in a few months and save a bundle. You can get well over a year's worth of netflix for the price of west wing at amazon. Use Amazon for book for birthday/christmas gifts for friends/family in the upcoming year!

Well, I hope you're not Ronda - I'm Ronda! :teeth:

Okay, Netflix is a thought. I can probably get a dual DVD recorder for less than what the WW set would cost me, right? And then I still wouldn't have to watch the commercials.

By the way, I will watch the series more than once. I already have, but not in its entirety. I think I missed most of the last season when it first aired, and now I try to see it on, um, Bravo but don't get to see every episode - and I really like this show. I love David Kelley's writing, and the acting...

Geez, I didn't even realize it was *you* asking for support. LOL I was trying to be your helper for this poor lost soul that was going to spend $125 on a set of DVDs :)

That will teach me to pay more attention to DIS then my child who wants a bed time song

Ah, no problem - heck, I do need help, right? :)

In addition to the Amazon GCs, I have $25 from a supermarket, the $50 restaurant, $25 gas, $25 Target, and about $100 from CVS. But only the Amazon gift certificates are burning a hole in my pocket! :rotfl2:

OH, this is funny..... :lmao:

Alright... There's a SPA by my house offering a GC package for $199

-1 Hr. Swedish Massage, Microdermabrasion ,La Europa Facial ,Pedicure & Manicure.

$199.00 (value $358.00) Allow 5hrs.

Five hours of yumminess for $200 bucks!

Talk me out of it. :listen:

Can't do it....I may even ask to come too. :rotfl:

public service 'bump' in case anyone else needs to be talked out of buying something ya don't need ;)

OK, I really like this thread and I hope it continues! I will really need it after Christmas when I see all the Deals at a great price... that I really need...:sad2:

Tomorrow I am going to return my extra Ebags convertable weekender. I bought 2 cause they were a good deal but DH doesn't care for it and I don't need 2. Do I ?? I was going to keep it for DS10 but... I'll return it and put that $$ in our Disney Jar.

now, if I can just stay off the Budget Board, I'll save a bunch of $$ !:rotfl2:

Okay: step one: return the extra bag. Don't hold it with the intention of giving it to anyone, or using it to replace your brand new one when it breaks down ten years from now...
step two: you don't have to stay off the Budget board right now, you just need to post here for help resisting buying something you don't need.
step three: after Christmas, YES, you need to stay away. You especially need to ignore all the "Walgreens marked down 50%", "Target marked down 90%" threads.

I'm waiting until the entire series is over and the release the series boxed set!

Sorry,,,I can't help you with this one.As soon as the Lost DVD came out I was all over it.

Oh dear. I need to be on this thread now in order to gear up to hold out against those sales. :scared: We are going to WDW in Jan and I need ot keep telling myself to save my money.

I did well at TRU today. Was there to get a Lego set for a boy we are helping for Christmas and that is all I bought. At one point I had $60+ of DS games in my hands and I put them all back. Even at buy 3 get one free, I still have to BUY those first three and they don't NEED them! Too much is too much!

So, if your name is Ronda....what is with your username/ I always assumed your name was Katie.:confused3

You guys are good!!

I'm headed to Michaels to get $1 stocking stuffers w/my 15% off coupon :)

I just wanted to thank you Ronda.

Right now, I am thinking about getting the kids the GForce dvd (blue-ray/reg DVD combo). I have my 10.00 coupon but have held off buying it so far.
I don't remember hearing any great reviews when it was in the movie theater, and so it might be a waste of my money if it is a movie the kids watch once and are down with it.

I know my DD a huge AirBuddies fan was disappointed in SantaBuddies.

I like to post incognito?

No? Okay.

Years ago, when you-know-who first discovered the Internet, I participated in a trivia group. We'd chat and play games... the people who started is decided to adopt user names based on heroes & villains from the Old West.

The men had it easy - Jesse James, Doc Holliday... do you know, there are only about three women whose names qualified? Annie Oakley, Belle Star, Katie Elder... so I grabbed what was available, and that's my 'public persona' for Internet forums (even though we all met in Las Vegas and everybody decided nobody liked anyone else in person and, um, I haven't heard from any of those people in at least ten years.

Good for you!!! If you really 'need' to spend the money (and, trust me, you don't :)), put the money in your newly-created "something special for my next vacation" bank.

An ENABLER INFILTRATED THE THREAD! The feelings just came rushing back!!!
Step AWAY from the phone and the ad. NOW. Heck, it's not the professional treatment the place in question would provide, but I bet - especially when you tell him how much you/he will save - your DH will be happy to give you a massage for a gift!

What a great thread! I have been buying and buying clothes for my girls this year. I need to stop. I'm sure they'd rather go to Disney in June than have (another) new outfit. I will not purchase my Gymboree (or Gap) carts. I will not. Even with coupons and sales.

Thanks for the something special idea too!

Good for you! You can do it! Dump the cart and delete the favorites links to Gymboree and Gap. You might also consider unsubscribing to their email updates if you get them - less temptation.

Oh, that would be so hard - but it is a really smart idea... Okay, I'm off to dump my cart. And delete them out of my favorites... Gulp...

Thanks for the support! :thumbsup2
