Ron Jon

Just back from Ron Jon's. The pool was great. We really enjoyed the lazy river. There were plenty of floats for everyone. We had no trouble finding chairs. We watched the Magic sail out right from the top deck in the pool area Saturday night. It was awesome! The room was so nice, very tropical. We parked our car in the long term parking area (gated and secure) at no charge. Cindy in concierge made arrangements for Travelynx shuttle van to pick us up at Ron Jons and they took us back to Ron Jons after the cruise. Travelynx charged us 5.00 per adult and 3.00 for children.
We ate at Rusty's Seafood for dinner which was awesome! We ate at the Ron Jon restaurant for breakfast which was a buffet. All of the offerings were hot and fresh. I did see the basketball/tennis courts but do not know if they charged for equipment or not.
Any other questions, I'll try to help.

I don't understand why this place gets such mixed reviews. We have 2 weeks booked in Aug. At first I only read wonderful reviews and I was very excited. Now I am reading that the resort staff is rude, the pool area is too crowded and the restaurant food is poor with very slow service. I hope we are some of the people that give it an excellent review. I know it is sold out most of the nights we are staying there, we will have a car so I don't care too much about the restaurant, I don't think I expect too much from the staff, but I do expect to find enough chairs by the pool, and I hope the pool isn't so crowded I don't feel my kids are safe, I don't want them trampled in the water, and we do look forward to the lazy river and slide.

It probably gets mixed reviews because of the different personalities of the people going there. Some people expect a lot and are not happy if they don't get it. Some people expect a lot and are not as picky as to what "a lot" is.

I'm a pretty easy going person and as long is someone is doing their job, I don't care if they're "friendly" about it or not.

Some people will always find something to complain about and some people won't complain about anything. You have to take all reviews with a grain of salt and then bite the bullet and make your own decisions :)

I've decided to go here for one night the end of June. I'm just figuring that no matter what, at least I'm not at work :teeth:

A question for Deweysgirl: I had read that they don't have breakfast. Can you give a few more details about the breakfast? (time of day, what days, etc.) Thanks very much :)

They have a restaurant right near the arcade and movie theater. I know they served dinner because we saw the menu posted. We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning before we left for the cruise, about 9am. For 6 of us (4 adults and 2 children), the bill was around 65.00. The food was served on a buffet (all you can eat!)and they had just about anything you could want. The waitress was nice, (everyone was nice btw.)
They had made to order omelettes, a pastry/danish station, sausage gravy, biscuits, eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, pancakes, french toast, cereal, bagels, etc.. It was all good!::yes::

This hotel is really super nice! I can't imagine anyone being unhappy here. The lazy river was busy Saturday afternoon but not so much so that I didn't let my 6 and 9 year olds go it alone. This place is so beautiful, the grounds are lush and tropical. The rooms were beautifully decorated. The jacuzzi bath was wonderful to relax in. The bathroom was huge! We were only in a studio and it was fine for us. We would go back again in a minute. I'm just sorry we didn't have more time to enjoy other amenities like the free putt-putt or the movie theater. We did peek in on the movie and it was real nice. Just like a mini version of a regular movie theater.

I totally agree with CRB#33!! Some people are probably more demanding than others. We go in 41 days, and I will tell you all about it when I return too!!

I'm not sure what the big deal is about being able to park at the resort unless you are on a longer cruise with few people. Your parking at RonJon's is "free" but you pay for the shuttle to and from the port. For example, 4 adults (at $5 each way) and 2 kids ($3 each way) is $52. Parking in the gated, secure lot at the terminal is $10 per day (only $40 for a 4 day cruise). Plus, after the cruise, I load my luggage into my car and head on my way. Not load it into a shuttle to go back to the resort to re-load it into my car!

I know that for us it's only me DH and DS so that would make the shuttle $13, $26 total if the charge is each way. That is still cheaper for us then the $40 at port and I don't have to worry about ants invading my car, plus we want to stay at Ron jons the day we get back so we can get things situated enjoy the amenities and rest before the drive home.

Hi gamom2three - Hope you all enjoyed the cruise. We sure did! We sure were blessed with beautiful weather!

We about broke even using the shuttle at Ron Jon's for the 4 of us. My parents came in a seperate vehicle, just the two of them, so they did save considerably more by using the shuttle.
We decidid to use the shuttle service and not drive over to Port only because we wanted to try Ron Jon's before the cruise. If not for my parents travelling along with us we probably would have just left the car at the port, because for us (2 Adults and 2 kids) you do just about break even for the 4 day cruise.

Did you re-book on board? We didn't but hope to cruise again in 2006.

Back to work now, Oh well! Great memories anyhow!
Take care,
Liz

deweysgirl...do you have to call wks in advance to book the shuttle or is it sufficient to book once we are there. We will be there 2 nights before our cruise in a few weeks...not DCL though..trying the Mariner, RCCL.

Our family of 5 stayed here 5/14 before our cruise. It was nice, nothing extraordinary but nice. There is milk available in the store. We asked a bartender about a place for bfast and she suggested a nearby place with good food at cheap prices. The food from the pool bar was okay. Very, very convenient for the cruise...

We stayed there when we sailed on 5/22 Magic for 2 nights before our cruise and 1 night after. I thought the people were helpful and nice. The water park was fun and we had a good time with mini-golf. For us the adjustment was to remember that we were staying at a condo and to not expect it to be a hotel. We ate at the restaurant twice and really loved the food! I had a seafood pasta dish that was enourmous and wonderful. I felt like I was eating out of the serving dish!

tezb - Hi, we did not have to make any prior arrangements for the shuttle. After we checked in they sent us over to the concierge desk and she (Cindy) handled it for us.

I asked when we made our room reservation back in April if it was necessary for advance reservations for the shuttle and they told me not to worry about it, they handle it when you check-in, which they did.

The shuttle service they use is Travelynx. They were prompt and courteous.

Hope this helps

I posted earlier about a rude person at the desk. I'm not very picky, but this one person was very rude over a request that most other resorts in this category would have happily accomodated. I don't think one rude person reflects poorly about the resort as a whole. Would I stay again? Absolutely. Everything else was great. The pool didn't seem crowded at all, at least at the end by the lazy river and water slide where my kids wanted to stay. Not nearly as bad as the Mickey pool on the ship. The food in the restaurant was fine. The room was beautiful, although the walls were a little thin as we heard our neighbors come in at about 1 am. We could even see lots of light coming under the adjoining door to their room. We loved this place. Wish it were closer so that we could vacation there in between cruises.

thanks deweysgirl...that's exactly what I wanted to hear. We will wait til we get there then....

thanks for the info
