Roller Coasters or Simulators - Who's With Me?

When you say simulators are you referring to something like Star Tours or do you mean roller coaster simulators where you sit in an enclosed capsule? My sister has some mild motions sickness issues and can usually handles Star Tours type rides without much issue. However, if she is in a roller coaster simulator then all bets are off.

I've never been bothered by any roller coaster OR simulator until they redid Star Tours several years ago. Now, as much as I love it, I DREAD riding it. Several CM's have suggested I sit down after I come out of it (I must look as green as I feel).

It's not that terrible. I had a hard time with BMTRR and 7DMT summer 2014. Last March we did Universal for the first time. You do move around on FB but not as bad as a coaster. If you close your eyes when you feel overwhelmed, it becomes pretty tame. I would give it a try. I was thinking of skipping, but I am glad that I didn't. We ended up riding it 4 times that trip. Don't go on an empty or full stomach. If you do decide to skip it, see if they will let you do the castle tour, which lets you see the highly themed, very cool queue. I found that BMTRR and 7DMT last March were easy after doing FB and Simpsons.

This is a great option (one my husband still wishes he'd picked, since he's worse than me on simulators lol), but I heard something recently about them stopping this. The rumor is that it's to prepare FJ for Express Pass. For the life of me I can't remember where I heard it, but I'm pretty sure it was either the DIS Unplugged Universal Edition or WDW Today podcast.

I heard that too. I will ask tomorrow when we are there and post back to the boards. I have heard that besides express pass, the castle tour was always kind of on again off again.

I used to have no problems with either. Only the twirly things (AstroOrbitor and Mission Space, I'm looking at you) were a problem. The older I get the harder it is to do coasters. Still not having a problem with the simulators really. But if anyone remembers the Alladin 3D thing at DisneyQuest (it was a video similulator on a headset....think of grandma in final scene of Carousel), that was the worst thing I did ever. Felt ill for a good while afterwards.

I am fine on Star Tours but I don't think I could handle an enclosed capsule. Overall I think that my experience with simulators is limited to Star Tours and Soarin' because I've never been to Universal. I am hoping that I can handle Spider-Man and Transformers. Since I can handle Star Tours and Dinosaur, I think that I will probably be able to do Spider-Man and Transformers.
