Roller coasters for people who don't like roller coasters?

Hey all! I'm going to Disney World for the first time ever for my honeymoon in April. Woo! With that said my fiancee has told me that she really doesn't like roller coasters. I'd never want to put her on something that would ruin her day but at the same time I know Disney World doesn't really have many of the extreme roller coasters you'd find in your typical amusement parks. From my research it seems like there is only one roller coaster that goes upside down and that's Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (I could be wrong though). I'd never put her on something like that or a roller coaster that goes up very high. Through my research it seems like there are many roller coasters that are good for kids and families. Coasters that basically are just something you are taken for a ride around on...not coasters you're looking for a big thrill from.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this? Since I've never been there I don't have any experiences with any of these rides.

I don't like coasters that go upside down, so yes avoiding Rocking Roller Coaster would be good. I am not a big thrill ride person, but will go on some if my anxiety lets me. I'd say your fiancee sounds about the same as me so these are the coasters I enjoy that I don't feel are over the top with thrills:

-Seven Dwarves Mine Train
- Goofy's Barnstormer (or whatever its called now, I can't remember. This is a children's coaster, so...)
- Big Thunder Mountain (I am on the fence about this one though because this one is almost too much for me, but my mom who doesn't like coasters AT ALL loves it, so your fiancee may be able to deal with it.)

I'll point out that I usually go on Space Mountain too, but I realize that may not be everyone's cup of tea since its in the dark and all, and honestly last time I rode it I found it much more intense than years past.

Hope this helps. Most of the coasters in other parks I consider too intense lol, so that's why I only included MK ones :)

Expedition Everest and Rock n Roller Coaster are definitely two to skip if she doesn't like heights or going upside down. Everest doesn't go upside down, but when you are going backwards, it does feel very similar to going upside down. Both go rather fast with drops and curves and such. Do you know specifically what it is she doesn't like about roller coasters? If it is the speed, you will likely want to avoid Space Mountain, Sven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Thunder Mountain, as well.

Yes, RNR is the only coaster as WDW with inversions. It's all indoors and you can't see them, so sometimes that helps with people who are afraid. It also has no drops, only corkscrews. At Animal Kingdom, watch out for Expedition Everest. It goes high and also backward, which freaks some people out.

Good starter coasters are Barnstormer and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. The Barnstormer is less intense, but 7DMT is situated on the "ground" (the mountain), as is Big Thunder, so sometimes people who worry about heights don't worry as much. The first two are very family friendly, with BTMRR being a step up and Space Mountain next. Space is all in the dark and a little rough, but not really very fast (and you can't see the heights).

Good luck to you.

To be honest I think she is mostly nervous because she's never been on a roller coaster before. I was the same way before I tried one but one day some friends got me to finally try one and I loved it. Not saying she will definitely love it after trying one but I'd like to try to get her feet wet and see what she thinks.

Well then try to book 7DMT with FP+.

You can always drop it if she decides she doesn't want to ride, but you probably can't get them once there if she is up for it.

I'm not a big coaster fan myself. In fact I have rarely gone on any non Disney coasters. But I LOVE riding SDMT and BTM. Space Mountain is just to rough on my aging back/ neck. I've tried RNRC and EE. I can see the appeal for lots of people, but these were one and done for me- just too intense.

I'd recommend a FP for SDMT to start with. It's the smoothest of them all and IMO the most visually appealing. If she likes it move up to BTM, then the others.

Agree with this. I'd also recommend starting her on Thunder Mountain before any of the others. If she enjoys that, I'd take her on Barnstormer and then 7DMT. If she likes all of those, then I'd do Space Mountain. I'd definitely leave that one for last, though. Then, if she likes all of those, you can see how she would feel about Everest on your Animal Kingdom day. Make sure she knows it will go backwards, though. Rock n Roller Coaster is the last one I'd take her one. The start can be pretty scary if you aren't used to roller coasters plus the ride is in the dark so it's harder to see what is coming.

It's interesting the different things people like. I love all types of roller coasters. Even the very intense ones....But I refuse to go on the teacup rides! lol

I hate, hate, hate roller coasters (have tried many but don't like anything about them), and I would not ride Space Mountain again. I don't think I'd have a problem with Big Thunder or 7DMT, though.

A question for those who have said they don't really like roller coasters but still go on the few you named. How do you feel about Tower of Terror? Do you stay away from that as well? This one I'm asking for my own sake! I'll go on any roller coaster but the thought of the tower of terror with it's drops makes me a little anxious.

I'd start with 7DMT (smoother than BTMR) and if that's ok BTMR, they're even not that far from each other.
Space Mountain is relatively slow and no inversions but it is in the dark and lots of people find it quite rough, me included, but I still kinda like it
If speed is the issue watch for Test Track also, it's the fastest ride in Disney, but not really a coaster.
If it's movement also watch out for TOT, quite sudden drops, though again not a coaster

I love EE and RNR, they are great rides, but I can see that some don't.

Oh forgot to mention that on Space Mountain you sit behind each other not beside each other, may also be a concern if she's nervous

I'm fine with rollercoasters, and I do ToT, but I still get a bit nauseated at the thought of the drop!

I'll most likely go on the Tower of Terror when I'm there...Simply due to the fact I feel like it would be a sin to not go on one of the most famous attractions at Disney World my first time there!

Ah, that's a little different than "not liking" them. Personally, I would encourage someone who had never tried a Roller Coaster to try it. I don't mean force them or anything, just encourage (assuming they want to try to overcome the fear). When I was little I was afraid of coasters...until I rode one. Then I never wanted to get off! Disney is a great place for starter coasters too as they are less intense.

Now, if someone has tried it and just really doesn't enjoy them, I can accept that.

It's definitely a cool ride, for being so simple lol. At the very least, do it once! And the fiance can go with you, so she gets to see the themed queue and then take the chicken exit out so she doesn't have to ride it with you if she doesn't want to.

I will ride almost any roller coaster in a heartbeat. I went on TOT once and will NEVER set foot on it again. The sudden drops are terrifying. I cried like a baby. Nope, no way, never ever again.

Not a roller coaster person at all, in my younger days yes, now NOPE! But I will ride and enjoy Big Thunder Mtn, I have not done 7DMT because we couldn't get fast passes on my last trip (first one since it was open) and the size constraints concerned me but I hope to be smaller on my next trip :)
Test Track is awesome, and I don't like speed! I had avoided it for years, decided I just had to try it out last fall just so that I could say I had done it...........got off of it and immediately got back in line!

OP: I hate roller coasters, and could have written the above. (I.e., I'm good with 7DMT, Barnstormer and BTMRR. Space Mtn I used to be fine -and can do it if the kids beg - but its gotten too intense for me over the years (was ok when I was in my 20s FWIW).)

I felt that the tamest of the above is Barnstormer, then 7DMT, then BTMRR, so if you want to start easy I'd start with Barnstormer. Or 7DMT... Now I can't decide which I thought was tamer! 7DMT has such great theming, its worth doing that 1. FYI Splash Mtn also has great theming, and mostly fine, but I won't ride it anymore b/c of the big drop. (I don't mind getting wet - i just hate the big drop.) HTH
