Hi all...

Arrived in the US on May 18th for a July 4th wedding and WDW honeymoon. 2 days ago I ended up in ER with acute vertigo (which has faded) and hypertension. They've put me on pills for the blood pressure and that has made a huge difference.

At this stage, we have elected not to cancel our honeymoon (I can't justify calling 2 weeks sitting at my mum's house (in a rather desolate Fla. town) being unable to go anywhere since we don't have a car... a 'honeymoon'!! ;) ).

My question is... if the hypertension is under control with drugs...can I still ride thrill rides???? I suppose WDW would still be fun if I can't ride any of the 'fun' rides...but it certainly wouldn't be as much fun. :guilty: I'll put the same questions to the doc on Monday, but can't wait till then to start formulating a plan, so I figured y'all rock, so I'd pose the question to y'all first. :)

Advice, ideas, etc is more than welcome. I really don't want to ruin the WDW honeymoon experience for my DHtb.

I have hypertension as well. Diet controlled. Anyway, I always ride thrill rides. I would definately skip the spinning ride Mission space. Did that make me feel bad. I felt on that ride, that if we had to make the trip back to earth. I may not have made it. I will never ever go on that ride again. But, I hear they now have a non spinning version. That may be what I would pick, if I were you.All others go on and enjoy, and by no means cancel. If the doctor advises no thrill rides. There are so many other rides you can en joy. Have a great trip!!!

You are right in asking your doctor about riding the thrill rides but I also have hypertension controlled by meds and I have always ridden the thrill rides with no problems.

I would never cancel at trip to WDW even knowing that I couldn't do the thrill rides. They are just one little piece of the magic.

Good luck and early Congratulations on your marriage!

Glad to see this post as I have borderline hypertension (hereditary) and I'm on HCTZ and Inderal (also for my migraines) and I was curious about this as well... I'd hoped to do some of the thrill rides, but wasn't sure (BP is controlled by the meds)

I have high blood pressure that is controlled by meds and I just asked my doctor this question last week since I am going to WDW next week. She told me that since my high blood pressure is "controlled" I can ride any ride I want.

I have had high blood pressure for 15 years that is controlled by meds. I go on everything. I ride all thrill rides and mission space is one of my favorites. I love the sensation but it's not for everyone.

I was recently put on Norvasc for HBP...anyone used this?

I dont know - doesnt seem to make it any lower?

Anyways - in answer the the OP - I went years without controlled HBP and rode everything. Now, Im not a DR - but if youre controlled, Id imagine you should be good.

I agree with the previous post. I have been 5 times in the last 6 years. each year blood pressure was elivated i am sure. I never shyed away from any of the rides. I leave tomarrow and feel that for the most part medication has bp undercontrol. I still have some bad days. my dr told be not to worry just to continue taking my medication and relax.

I also agree...I've been "controlled" on blood pressure meds for over 30 years...and I ride all the thrill rides at Disney...except..Mission in Space...I just didn't feel "comfortable" enough to ride it...My sister, who is also on blood pressure meds loves that ride... :goodvibes...Also...I was VERY apprehensive about riding Expedition Everest...especially since a portion of it goes backwards...and I am prone to getting a bit sick when it comes to going backwards....Well...I not only did well on that ride...It is my favorite....

I have found that Norvasc can lead to dizzyness when you are getting used to it or are increasing dosage. This is typical, from what my Doctor has told me.

One of my doctors once said that since my hypertension was under control with medication, then I should be able to do pretty much anything someone without hypertension can. Or something like that. I was asking about SCUBA, not thrill rides.

But I agree, talk to your doctor.

I'm another with controlled HBP with medication. I've been on 4 different meds... Norvasc worked for about a year and then the swelling in the ankles occurred...very pretty and sexy...
I've been steady for about 5 years now and I haven't had any problems with any thrill rides ever... definately chat with your doctor, but remember you're going to be in Disney World and on your honeymoon. There's so much to do in Disney w/o the thrill rides too.
Congratulations early and have a great time! pixiedust:
