Rolled Our Rig!

Scary stuff!! So glad 'you' made it through ok!

Hello MandMLUVMMandDVC ....... I appreciate your response but I wanted to make sure you knew that it was not 'our' rig that rolled but another camper that posted this thread on another section of the 'Disboards'. I thought the many friends on the FW Camping Forum would like to read this!

oh, ok. was interesting to hear how you are supposed to use those brakes. we have extra brakes, but hubby always drives.

I'd really like to know the circumstances behind this. Generally speaking, trailer/towvehicle combinations don't just roll over spontaneously.

Hello Jim ...... Attached is what was posted by the wife who was in the accident.

How did it happen??

We were going under an overpass when an 18-wheeler breezed past us. We felt the rear-end of the trailer shift, so DH let off the gas and applied the trailer brakes(you never hit the tow brakes!) Just before we passed out the other side the 18-wheeler gunned it and we think the draft from the truck caused some suction under that low bridge. He just did clear our car when all hell broke loose. It took just seconds, no more than 10 seconds max. The rear started to swerve and then it really started pushing us back and forth. There was a moment when I felt the car lift up and I knew we were going over. We rolled about 250 yards, I'd guess. I'm just so glad that we didn't go across the median or clip the truck or hit somebody. This could have been so much unbelievably worse! (and is was very baaaaddd!)

I can't imagine the feeling of your vehicle starting to lift, and knowing it was going to go over. How terrifying! Glad they came out of this ok. That is a miracle.

Looks like a series of bizarre circumstances all came together for a freak accident. Could have been disastrous.

I know 2 separate families that rolled their tv and tt. Thank God neither had any serious injuries. Both of these accidents also involved 18 wheelers. My dh used to HATE driving next to them when we had our tt. I was just white knuckle ALL the time!!! :faint:
