Rollaway beds at moderates?

Anyone know if they will allow rollaway beds in the moderate resorts? We will have 4 people, me & DH, DD is 13 and an adult friend so we need 3 beds if possible. Hoping to book alligator bayou for the Murphy bed at POR if free dining is offered in early Sept but need a backup in case it isn't available and would like a moderate resort. TIA!

To my knowledge, rollaway beds are NOT permitted in Alligator Bayou rooms at POR. This is due to the murphy bed. Fire codes would not permit the added obstacle of a rollaway bed in the event people need to evacuate, etc. Plus, there wouldn't be a good spot to put it with the murphy bed down and in use. One option that may be better, and save you the extra cost per night, would be to bring a twin size air mattress. It can be put on the floor between the bed and the door (where the trundle used to be) and can be stood up during the day to give you more room.

Otherwise, for other rooms without the murphy bed and other moderate resorts, I think it depends on the room configurations. Whether or not rollaway beds are permitted is solely based on fire/building codes. More often than not, if there are two double/queen beds in the room already, a rollaway would not be permitted.

CSR has rollaway beds - they are about $16 per night, I think. Maximum room occupancy is still four plus one child under the age of three, but you can fit a rollaway in the CSR two queen rooms. We have used both a twin and a queen air mattress at CSR (not at the same time) - my kids don't like to sleep in the same bed.

We had always gotten one at POFQ until our last stay. When we decided to stay I asked if they were still allowed now that they had queen beds and was told yes. It was added to my reservation. When we got there we were told that they no longer could put one in the room due to fire codes because of the size of the room and adding the queen beds. I was in the same situation you are in and was not happy. We asked to be switched to a moderate that we could get a roll away, even though we really wanted to stay at POFQ. We were told it would cost us way more money and the resort manager was not willing to help us. We have never had any problems and only small issues with all the times that we have been to WDW. We ended up going to Wallmart and buying an air mattress for our son. First time I can say that WDW gave us poor customer service. Be careful, I don't know if any of the moderates, especially if they have all gone to queen beds, can put a roll away in the room.

But if free dining is offered you will stay at POR AB room? That is confusing me. Yes, I decided to go ahead and book POR through the website, because I ultimately do want the POR AB room with the Murphy Bed. The problem is, the website doesn't allow you to select AB or MB. When I asked the question, I hadn't decided to go ahead and book the room. My thoughts were that I would be book after free dining was announced and my fear was that the standard view POR wouldn't be available with the FD so I wanted a back-up plan. Now, hopefully I can just call and add FD to my ressie if Disney decides to do FD. I still have the problem, though, of not being able to request AB. I was able to request a trundle bed, but I couldn't add notes to my ressie to request the AB room.

I can't answer you about the rollaway, but are you sure your 13 year old daughter will fit in the Murphy bed? From what I understand, they are only 63 inches long. I know my 13 year old daughter would not fit (she is taller than I am, LOL!) Actually, I think this may be the last year that my 8 year old would even be comfortable on it. My kids are on the tall side but I would think most 13 year olds would be pushing the limits on comfort. Just something to consider. It would stink to get there counting on using the Murphy bed and then finding out it is too small.

You can only guarantee to get AB if you are a family of 5, or you book preferred.

Sstandard view does not guarantee you being in AB, but you have a better chance since half the rooms in the Mansions are RR's.

Our kids are older teen boy and girl and need separate bedding. We carry a queen-size Aerobed with us our on vacations so that they can sleep separately in hotels. We used them in the one-bedroom at BWV and in a room at CSR at WDW so far.

This. The murphy beds in POR AB are meant for children 11 and under. They are slightly longer than a crib mattress (same width as a crib mattress). You are better off staying wherever you want and bringing a twin size air mattress along.

Thanks for the heads up. I think we are going to invest in a twin air mattress to be safe. I did request a trundle bed when I booked online because it gave me the option but don't know if it will work or not. Thanks for the info!

My ds11 is 5'3" and he was comfortable in the murphy bed.

They don't have trundle beds anymore if all of the rooms have been remodeled. They traded the trundle beds for Murphy beds in the AB rooms.

If you want to request AB you can all Disney 407-wdisney and ask the CM to make a notation on your reservation that you are requesting Alligator Bayou.

Also if you want guaranteed AB room with a Murphy bed, as a PP stated, you can book preferred and will be in AB without question.

If you are just going to get a twin air mattress than you can stay at any resort you like. Not just POR.

I'm sorry you were given the wrong information over the phone, and I would have been frustrated by it too. However, if they can't fit roll aways in most rooms anymore because of the fire code, then they can't fit them in. That is not under their control. They can't make any exceptions to that rule.

As far as moving you goes, the only moderate you could have switched to is CBR. And shortly that won't be an option, as they are going to queen beds too. I'm guessing that maybe all they had left there were preferred rooms, or pirate view rooms, which would account for the price increase. Again, I would have been a bit frustrated, but I wouldn't expect a discount on the room price because of it.

Have you e-mailed Disney about this? When I had a bad experience at ASMu, I sent off an e-mail and within a couple of weeks had a phone call from someone who actually cared and made everything right for me. If you haven't, I think you should send an e-mail.

The new 'extra' bed at POR is called a banquette bed. It isn't recommended for guests over 9 years old. It is 35" X 65". If I was you, I would definitely plan on a different arrangement.

You could always consider something like Wilderness Lodge with a queen and a set of bunks for your child and the extra adult.

We did consider that but don't want the additional cost of a deluxe resort. I was looking at the ones at AKL. Is there a way to guarantee you get a room w/ a queen and 2 bunk beds? I thought when I checked on the website, the particular category of room said something like 1 king, 2 queens OR a queen/bunk bed. I don't recall if it gave you the option to pick a rate that would guarantee you got the queen/bunk bed. I would hate to pay the additional cost and not even be guaranteed to get my choice. I know you could add a room request and Disney will do their best to accommodate but there would still be no guarantee.

As a family of 5, we always travel with a twin size raised air mattress. Because it is higher, no one minds sleeping on it. None of my kids like sleeping close to the floor. We always drive so it isn't a problem to throw it in the car. If you are flying, maybe you could stop by Walmart and pick one up? Or possibly have one shipped to the resort ahead of time?

If you can bring an air mattress, you might be better off in a room without the Murphy bed. Although I haven't stayed in a room with the new Murphy beds yet, in the pictures it seems like the piece of furniture that stores the Murphy bed is quite large. You might have more room for an air mattress in a regular room. Maybe someone who has stayed in the new rooms can answer this better?

Yes, the rooms with a queen and a set of bunks are a booking category so you can specifically get one of those if you'd like at AKL.
