Roll in vs Transfer shower

What is the difference between a roll in and transfer shower? I’ve only ever reserved the roll in rooms. I need to assist DS with showering so need hand held shower and not have to work around tub, glass doors etc. will a transfer work too?

I haven't seen this category previously so I'm not sure how many resorts have this option. It looks like there is a lip or step into the shower but there is a seat and shower wand, plus a curtain. The "accessible features" mentions grab bar at toilet and in shower.

I did some searching. This "wheelchair accessible with transfer shower" room category seems to be relatively new. I only find it in some deluxe/dvc resorts and Coronado Springs - Village (not Tower). I don't see it as a room category for other moderates or value resorts. I'll keep an eye out for it in other resorts, maybe as refurbs are done.

It looks that way from the pictures. No room for the wheelchair within the shower. Probably more like a regular size shower stall, which can be as large as the footprint of a bathtub but often is smaller. I don't have any measurements so only going by the pics, which may be off depending on angle of the shot.

I know this is off-topic and I apologize, but looking at that toilet makes me wonder what the thinking was. I don't see much use for the grab bar where it is. And if you have no knee strength, and thus really need help getting up from the toilet, where are any grab bars to help?

Yeah, as an OT, I can only think that those are helpful only if you are doing a front-on transfer? We do teach those transfers for persons who might have a small bathroom footprint and can't line up their chair next to the toilet (if using a wheelchair). If ambulatory, that grab bar is absolutely USELESS if someone needs somethings for to aid in sitting/standing. Maybe I'm totally missing something?

I do like the transfer bench option. As someone who is getting their first wheelchair, I often need a shower chair and don't want. nor plan, on taking my wheelchair into a shower. This is a nice option.
