Hi Julie (Tinkerfun)

This is my first cruise, so I am not an authority in any way - but I have read TONS on these boards about the clubs. According to what has been posted here, they will sometimes allow a child to move up even if they aren't quite old enough (particularly if it is to be in the same group with a sibling) HOWEVER, they only allow one "move" per cruise no matter what. If you immediately move him up and he is unhappy with the older kids, you will not be able to move him down again. If you start with him in his "appropriate" age group and he is unhappy, you can then ask to have him moved up.

Since my DS in only 5.5, this wasn't an issue for me so I didn't really look at club vs. lab activities, but I do know that the club does get to spend time in the lab.

On another note, I have been handling the little web site that we have for our sailing. It is at www.bwdarrah.com/dcl. If you would like to be added to the list of "Who's going", just send me a PM or email or post here and I'll add you to the list.

Welcome to the thread!

Pamela

Hi,

Julie...the gloves can be had at any one of the mall accessory chain's like Claire's, the Icing, or Afterthoughts. They cost around $16. I'll be parading around in mine (and my tiara, perhaps) to late seating and probably all over the ship, as well. Also, I wouldn't worry about your kids being bored in the Oceaneer's Lab/Club. I literally could not tear mine away from it (DS8, DD11) on our Wonder cruise this past February. It was all I could do to make them sit for dessert in Triton's on semi formal night because I'd bought them the clothes and wanted at least a picture! The counselors are fantastic at knowing exactly what is age appropriate and "cool". Unlike parents. :-)

I'm worrying about my friend's house on Grand Cayman....can't contact them yet and wondering if their roof is somewhere floating en route to Cuba.

Anyhow, as long as Hurricanes Jean through Zelda don't do any more damage, there should at least be something left to visit by the time we cruise.

Hi Everyone!

I'm so excited. :bounce: I talked to Debbie today & got my dinner rotation(APL), & Palo/spa ressies. She was soooo nice! If she's an example of the rest of the CM's, than that's great! :)

She said Castaway Cay is about cleaned up. I was kind of curious about Capt. Marvin's, too. But like she said... They (grand Cayman & other port's) are pretty quick in cleaning up since tourism is their main source of income. Well, let's just pray that Jeanne just dissipates & blow's out into the ocean. :wave2:

Well, the jury is still out in deciding on buying black gloves. I don't want to be the odd woman out, though.
What's more of a big deal, or what does more people dress up for? Formal night or semi formal night (captain's gala)? Or, are they pretty much the same?

Anyhoo. Everyone, have a good evening. -Jen :earsgirl:

I called the cruise line today to book some on shore trips and asked for Capt Marvin's. The guy I talked to had no idea what I was talking about.
Is it the morning snorkle called "Stingray City"? Or is it something you have all booked privately? HELP!!

Sorry Cheri, I can't help you. We aren't booking anything. I just know how popular Capt Marvins is. Good luck!

Which one of these are you folks doing?

Short Excursion (approx. 2.5 hours):

Half-day Excursion: 10 AM to 1 PM, or 2 PM to 5 PM, seven days a week (Check in by 9:15 AM or by 1:15 PM)

· Stingray City sandbar, where you may feed and swim with the 'rays

Cheri,

We are doing the 'half-day' 10AM to 1PM excursion with Captain Marvins. There is a group of 10 of us booked together for that outing.

That is of course if we even GET to Cayman!

Sorry, I don't mean to sound negative, but we missed GC last time, and that was only due to choppy seas. Given the recent hurricane weather and subsequent damage, I can't help but wonder ...I just really hope we can anchor there.

'Beano'

.....I'm starting to get reeeeally excited..... :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

So, what are people doing on Cozumel? The Capt Marvin's thing sounds great, but doesn't that mean that we'd have to give up the turtle farm and "Hell"? There has to be a way to see everything. I want to snorkle with the party crowd but I'd hate to get all the way down there (assuming we get there) and miss the turtles.....or is it not that big a deal? If it's just a bunch of turtles sitting in an enclosure like at the zoo, we could take a pass on that. (I just don't want to miss something cool for the 6 year-old.) So, help me out, oh seasoned cruisers. I'll sit here with a glass of vino awaiting your replies .... {take your time} :hyper:

BTW: I don't mind missing a port or two as long as the good vino is flowing, the kids are happy at Oceaneer's and there are people to laugh with!

One more thing: does anybody have the "LAP" rotation?

Thanks for the info on the black gloves. I have been asking everyone around here and several people have mentioned Claire's. I didn't even know we had a Claire's! (Or what type of store it was!) But you all seemed to know about it!! I guess they sell a lot of earrings and hair stuff. So I am off the the mall tomorrow!

Is anyone renting a tux on board? Or know how to do it?

Thanks for all the info on the Lab/Club - I think it has help ease DS7's fear.

How did you guys already figure out you dinner rotation? Can you just call and check or is it because you have cruised before?

We booked the 1pm Stingray City through DCL (Didn't know about Capt. Marvins at the time)

Thanks again oh wise ones for your incredible cruise knowledge! I can't wait to meet everyone in a few weeks!

--Julie

Hi Julie,

We are renting a tux for my DH. We are renting from http://www.cruiselineformal.com & they will have the tux delivered to your room. I got information off of passporters.com.

Also, I called Debbie @ DCL regarding my Palo & spa ressies. (we have the REAS package). And, I asked her if I could request a dinner rotation & she said yes. Also, I believe that those "lucky" :) people in the suites get to request dinner rotation among other "perk's". (not that I'm jealous or anything). ::yes::

About stingray city... If you wanted you could check if their was a penalty regarding canceling Disney's excursion & see if their was an opening w/ Captain Marvin's. We too are doing the 10am 1/2 day w/ Capt. Marvin's. The more the merrier. :grouphug:

well, I hope this helped. I'm most definetly a novice cruiser, but I'm trying to find out all I can. I'm just a little excited. :Pinkbounc

I hate to say this, but from what I have read online, there is no more turtle farm -- literally! I have read on numerous websites that all of the turtle farm was wiped out, at least that is what the early reports said. Makes me so sad to think about...

on a much lighter note (I sound like the Today Show - LOL)...

I think we are going to shoot for the 8am Capt Marvin's with the girls. (lasts 2 hrs max) Then enjoy whatever we can of the shops etc, then take the kids back to the ship, the DH and I want to go on a submarine in the PM.

That is, of course, a tentative plan. For their own economics and sanity, I certainly hope the Cayman Islands can get everything pieced back together as quickly as possible. What a horrible time it must be for everyone down there right now!

Just wondering if the docs are here yet!!!! I wonder who will be the first to get their docs..it can be a race for the Docs, who can get theirs first??!!!! ;) :p

I heard the same thing that Turtle Farm was completely wiped out. How sad!

Heidi, race for the docs?? You are on!! I bet I can beat you to the front door!!:p

How do the Docs arrive? U. S. Potal Service or some other way?

Just wondering, so I can be super quick when I see the truck pull up...LOL...

:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I just found some info that the turtle farm on Grand Cayman may still be there. Take a look at the website at http://www.divetech.com/ - scroll down near the bottom where they have an update after Ivan.

I noticed in another thread that an Oct9 cruiser called Disney and they told her that if GC was unavailable they would "most likely" go to Costa Maya. If this looks likely, I'll add a couple Costa Maya links to our website.

So far, I haven't been able to find any information on damage at Capt. Marvins.

If I am home and not at work the race is on. I will hurdle the couch if necessary. I will take anyone down that gets in my way!!!

If I am at work, doesn't count...not fair!!!

Just wondering if you usually have to sign for the cruise docs or will they leave them on your doorstep?

By the way, anyone packing yet? I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!
