ROL dining package???

Is it wrong I don't even wanna do dinner at Boma, just to stay completely away from the AK area cause of this? So glad I switched to a Universal only trip, with one day at TL

Any whispers of possible soft openings? We leave the 13th. I love World of Color and was really hoping to see this

Yikes. I don't really care too much about the character interaction at Tusker. We go there for the food and the characters are a side benefit. The fewer food options is very disappointing though.

The location is not a Photo-Op or a Memory Maker photographer location, but you use your own camera. No autographs or hugs, just a "stand and flash" chance to take a photo with the character. This would be identical to getting to see The Beast at BoG. (People don't realize that BoG is the "Test Bed" for new ideas. Things done to speed up table-turns and get more people through the eatery; ideas are tested here and then used elsewhere within WDW.)

When we went last year, there was a PhotoPass photographer for the Beast. There were also awkward hugs. Unless those things have since changed, then this plan for Tusker is not quite identical to BoG - it's a step down.

Oh, wow... if that is the case with Tusker House, we won't even go. Glad we'll have the opportunity to read trip reports prior to our 6/5 ADR I was planning to switch to ROL package.

Agreed. If these changes affect breakfast also, you can rest assured I will be cancelling that ADR. Most likely that would become a CS breakfast at the resort for me - which will be at least $20 less than what I would have spent at TH. I realized $20 may not be anything to Disney, but if enough people cancel and go for cheaper options, that money will eventually add up.

Tusker breakfast is our only repeat from 10 years ago so DH can have a meet with Donald. He and my daughter will be bummed if we have to change that.

That will probably make Disney happy. Another table they can sell as ROL package. I've been wondering how they can offer ADRs for ROL when they already have a mostly filled restaurant (unless they've been holding back tables). Maybe this is part of the plan. People who go for the characters will cancel but easily made up for by ROL people. Meh.

I don't like those TH changes to fewer buffet options. I wouldn't care if lunch and dinner menus were the same. As far as characters not going to tables... I would have been bummed about this when the kids were younger and really ate up the interactions. Now, I think we might prefer a quick photo opp at the end.

Us too. We went for dinner not long after BoG opened. My dd actually danced with Beast, it was very cute.

Rusty you are showing you age on that one

1) Yep.
2) Some refer to my "AGE" in terms such as Mesozoic, Mesoproterozoic.

NOTE: Please remember, these Tusker changes are things we have been told, but may or may not come into effect. WDW does throw out "trial balloons" occasionally, then decide whether to implement or not to implement.

So, from what you were told, breakfast won't be included in the ROL package? (I know its a rumor but just wanting to confirm)

Do we have any information on breakfast character interaction? Will characters still roam at breakfast or will they be all in a room for a quick picture only? And when does this new part with the characters begin? Specifically needing to know for April 22 breakfast.....I don't want to keep our ADR if characters are just a quick pic in a room after.

Now, this is what we have been told . . . (so, consider it part rumor and part truth).
Hopefully things will evolve!
.

1) What we HAVE BEEN TOLD . . .
. . . prices for lunch and dinner will be the same (now, dinner is more expensive than lunch)
. . . the food offerings will be the same for lunch and dinner, much like Le Cellier
. . . there will be a reduction in the number of food offerings on the buffet
. . . less offerings mean less food costs and faster table-turns as guests "eat and get" (aka, "opening the table")
. . . like a Fantasmic! package, it will cost more (more cash or 2-TS credits)
. . . characters will no longer walk around the restaurant *
2) For those who like Tusker, this is a disappointing move

* Like BoG, the characters will only be in one location. At the end of the meal you walk into the room (locally) called "The Closet", then exit after a BRIEF Photo-Op. (The "400" room is the narrow room at the far-right-rear side of the eatery. Currently, they use it mostly for handicapped guests or autistic kids, as it is so small and pretty quiet.) The location is not a Photo-Op or a Memory Maker photographer location, but you use your own camera. No autographs or hugs, just a "stand and flash" chance to take a photo with the character. This would be identical to getting to see The Beast at BoG. (People don't realize that BoG is the "Test Bed" for new ideas. I'm confused about the 2 TS credits "like Fantasmic! package." Every year we've done the Fatasmic! package, it was only 1 TS at either Mama Melrose or Hollywood and Vine, are you saying that Disney has "told you" - I know nothing confirmed, that Tusker House will be 2 TS dining credits for the package, if there is one? - Isn't Brown Derby (the only Fantasmic! package that requires 2 TS credits), a signature restaurant?

Blarg. There being a lot of truth to the rumor about the character interaction change would not surprise me in the least. Last fall we had breakfast at Crystal Palace and while all the other characters came to the table, Tigger met in the middle of the lobby just to the side of the buffet. It was so awkward to have to get in line to see Tigger at some point during your meal, or after. Overall, that breakfast was a lot more hectic than it had been in the past. I'm sure it puts a strain on the wait staff...people getting up to see Tigger..Are they done? Are they coming back to the table? Should I clear these plates? etc. :/

We did it as well and thought it works out fine. :)

Piglet used to meet that way several years ago.

We had the same experience at BOG in August of last year. There was a Photopass photographer in the room with the Beast, and we got the same amount of time with him that you'd get at any character interaction in the park. I don't think he signed autographs, but I believe that's just because he can't hold a pen with those paws.

If they include a Photopass photographer at Tusker, I'd be happy with just the photo op at the end of the meal. Characters coming to the table is fun for the kids, but its hectic trying to time trips to the buffet so you don't miss any of them, juggling your camera/pen/autograph book, trying to get decent shots without plates of half-eaten food in them in the small space between the tables, etc. I liked having a calm, relaxing meal at BOG and then meeting the Beast on our way out.
