Roku vs. Apple TV vs. Amazon Fire?

DH keeps talking about getting rid of the cable, so I tried a free trial of Netflix. I think we watched it for a few days, but a few problems.

TERRIBLE streaming, constant buffering, it was so annoying to watch. That occurred even with on one else using the internet. Which is not going to work in the long term.

Also, lots there, but after a few days, went through the shows of interest. Also found when DD19 watched slasher type of programs, then those type of shows were more pronounced in the selections. Which no one else was interested in.

I would love to save the money, but unless we can fix the above issues, it isn't going to happen, much to DH's dismay. :)

That's why we also have a subscription to Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus. ;) We've noticed some buffering w/ Hulu, but none w/ Amazon and rarely w/ Netflix-and we have s-l-o-w internet just b/c of how far we live off the road. You can try a free week at Hulu-have you tried it yet? We like it b/c it's current tv shows, so it really feels like we haven't lost anything.

We've had Roku for over a year now. However, we just cancelled Directv this week. I've been after dh for a year to cancel, it took this long to convince him. (well, the fact that the language on tv has gotten just terrible helped too ;) ). He told me last night he doesn't even miss Directv-at all! That is HUGE for him! We've had Directv for 12+ years.

I'm just excited to not have to pay $72 a month for one of their cheapest package, (including $10/month for a 10 yr old standard def dvr. )

I despise Directv. ;)
