I just got a cell phone with service provided by Rogers. I live in New Brunswick and will be traveling to another part of the province later this week that is outside of my local calling area. I don't know much about cell phones yet but it seems to me that if someone calls me while I'm away on my phone, I'll be charged a good amount of money just for answering it. So, my question is two-fold:

1. How much will I get charged per minute to receive or make phone calls while I'm away?

2. Is there any way that I can minimize these charges with roaming numbers or something like that?

Most of the calls that I will be receiving and making are to people who will also be at the conference with me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and the sooner the better!

Dial *help (*4354) you should have choice at some point to speak to a customer rep.

Or from home dial 888.rogers1 888.7643771.
They should be able to answer all your questions about roaming chargers and cost for you to call someone and vice versa.

Any Rogers folks out there to answer a few questions.?

Presuming you have a St Stephen number..

Any calls to another number would incur long distance from your physical location to the location of the number called. And the person receiving the call, pays long distance from their home location to where they are.

Example: You are in Fredericton with someone from Moncton. If you call them.. you are paying long distance from Fredericton to Moncton. If they answer, THEY are paying long distance from Moncton to Fredericton.

Hardly seems fair.. but that's how they do it still here in Canada.

Thanks for your help. I think I have it all figured out. One thing that might be useful for you MY5 people to know is that if someone from your MY5 list calls you when you are outside of your local area, it doesn't charge you anything but if you call them, it does.

We went ahead and added 35 minutes for long distance for $6/month. Now we don't have to worry.
