:confused3 Anybody been there? My nephews son is getting married there. Any good places to eat at? Interesting things to do? :confused3

I consider myself to be pretty knowledgable about NC, and... Nope, there is nothing interesting to do or see in Rocky Mount.

It does make for a nice place to sleep on the way to Myrtle Beach from Philly, though!

I live 20 minutes from there and you are out of luck for things to do unless you want to go to a mall that is nearly losing every store it has. :guilty:

Ya see! Once again my knowledge of NC is confirmed!

Papa -I agree that it must have some adequate motels.

Not much there. I usually stop there on my way up north. I will be stopping tehre again in June.

Excellent BBQ restaurant (NC style) but can't remember the name.....
ANYONE????

Ooohhh....OOhhhhh! I know that one!

Parker's BBQ..... OMGoodness, I love that place. The cornbread sticks are wonderful. When I was younger, we'd go to Rocky Mount to go Christmas shopping (We didn't have a mall in my hometown), and we'd always eat at Parkers.

I moved to TN 16 years ago, and the stuff they call BBQ doesn't come anywhere close to eastern NC BBQ. (IMO, lol)

Sajetto...Do you mind if I what town you live in? I'm from Ahoskie, NC. Heard of it?

Rocky Mount, NC is our family's big joke when we do the drive to Florida (from PA via 95). It strikes me as funny that there are signs for that place like 150 miles before you get to it and then, I swear, every 20 miles after that. As if it were really someplace special. Like it's some real landmark or something, you know? So as we're driving, one of us is always saying "oooh, just 75 miles to go til Rocky Mount!" I was interested in this thread also because I'm always trying to figure out what the big deal is! :confused3

I grew up in Rocky Mount! My family is all still there, and I am there every month or so. There's not much to do, but I can give you restaurant advice.

Barbeque: one poster mentioned Parkers, but there is no Parker's in Rocky Mount; they are in Wilson and Greenville. Parkers is good though if you wanted to make the drive. Gardner's BBQ is just okay, but for really good BBQ you should make the 20 minute drive to Wilson and eat at Bill Ellis' BBQ.

The world's best donuts are at Anne's Donuts on Sunset Blvd. "Anne" started making donuts decades ago, she's long gone now but there is a new shop open next to Sonic. I swear they are the best donuts ever.

Shopping: Golden East Mall is the only real shopping, with a Belk's, JC Penny and Sears as well as a few other stores. Sajetto is right though, they are losing a lot of their stores.

Interesting things to do: sorry, I lived there for years and can't think of any!

Hey, I know Ahoskie! My DH's family is from Ahoskie! We were just there in November for his grandfather's funeral (my first visit to Ahoskie). Most of his family has moved now, but there's a few of them left there.

:confused3 Would it be out of line to ask them to have the weddding some place more interesting?

That's the one! Sorry - I mixed up Wilson and Rocky Mount (not much difference between when I lived in the area)
You really need a "road trip" from the wedding I think... ;)

You bet I know Ahoskie, I'm in Greenville :thumbsup2

Hmm...I must be confusing Greenville and Rocky Mount with the BBQ places. I still LOVE Parkers though :goodvibes mmmm..mmmm...

Hey...TWO people on here have heard of Ahoskie. That's some kind of record, I think, lol.

Funny story....I moved here in 1990, had my first child in 1995. I went to this pediatrician's office that I got a flyer for in the mail. I really liked her and decided to use her. After about 2 years of going to her, I found out that she is from MURFREESBORO!(for those that don't know, that's about 15-20 minutes from Ahoskie). We both moved 10 hours away from our hometown, only to meet up in Chattanooga.

I took her some country ham that my mom brought me from NC at Christmas. She said it was the best gift she'd gotten that year, lol.

I'm going that way in June. Oh..and Sajetto...I'm an ECU graduate! (1990) Go Pirates!!! :cheer2:

I only know Rocky Mount, NC from staying in hotels on the way down and the way back from WDW. We did eat dinner at Outback Steakhouse near the hotels. It seemed like a nice, quiet place.
