have them? My 4 yo is likely to need a place to calm down after sensory overload and the one thing that calms him best is quietly rocking and reading, though it takes him a few to calm himself enough to listen. I dont want to disturb mothers and infants in the baby care facility. Is there anywhere else? If not, would the baby care facility be set up in a way that he wont be disrupting other infants or any other suggestions on where to unwind (he seems to need the rocking motion)?
Thanks

There are rocking chairs in MK on the porch of the shop near the Haunted Mansion and I think around the corner near Hall of presidents. There are also some at Aunt Polly's landing but getting to Tom's Sawyer Island in "meltdowm mode" would be tough.

The rocking chairs near Hall of Pres is right across from the bell - and that bell can be rung, loudly...

there are rocking chairs on the porch at the Town Square Exhibition Hall (the building that Tony's is in).

At Disneyland, the area in the baby centers with chairs is for nursing mothers ONLY. They will not even let a mom in there to bottle feed a baby...

There are rocking swing chairs on the beaches of the Poly, GF, and YC/BC, FYI.

I don't know if this is feasible or how many rockers are in the baby care center, but perhaps you could email in advance and ask if a rocker could be moved to the "bottle feeding" area for your use. I'm thinking specifically of the MK as I'm not as familiar with the baby care areas in the other parks but the question could be addressed for all the parks. My concern with the outdoor rockers is the possibility that others may be sitting in them. I guess this could apply to the nursing room too which is why I'd ask in advance if there's any possibility an arrangement could be made to provide you with one.---Kathy

Thanks to everyone for their responses. Hopefully we wont need them. I can always sit on a bench and simulate rocking if I must. I would like a more removed area but will take what I can find.

The wilderness lodge has some nice rocking chairs in the lobby in front of the fireplace, very relaxing!

I have a son with sensory integration disorder...the place that did the trick for us "best" was indeed on Tom Sawyer's Island. When he started to get close to complete overload, we would head over on the next ferry. I admit, at times it must not have been pleasant for those also heading over..but it was needed.

We made our way to the little dock that looks over to Big Thunder Mount. RR across the water and because it's so "off the beaten path" nobody interrupted him having his meltdown and once he was in his calming mode, he was able to relax without more stimulation. For him the repetitive noise of BTMRR was good (since it was in the distance). I know for some kids this would not help.

And there is a rocking chair there (two of them I think). It's a good place to unwind...for all of us! Moms included!

Does he tolerate having a light blanket over him to help with sensory overload? I don't know if it's feasible to carry one but it might help if you need to stop in a more crowded area to rock him...just to block out some of the other stimulation. Sounds like there are rockers in more areas than I ever knew about!---Kathy

He doesnt tolerate anything over his face. I can sometimes shield him with my arms but not always. If I can just find a quiet place I can make a rocking motion. I think the quiet is probably more important than the chair. Also, it helps if the area isnt crowded.

Hi there

we found that the medical centre and their staff reallly helpfull when my daughter had a meltdown, there was no rocking chair but sitting behind a curtain in there was exactly what she needed

the staff are really understanding, i think they have seen many ASD children as i didn't feel the need to explain everything :goodvibes
