Scheduled for Monday 11/18 at 1:28 PM, the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Environment (MAVEN) mission lifts off from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station aboard an Atlas V rocket. If you're in the vicinity of Cocoa Beach, Port Canaveral, Titusville or the Space Coast area, you should be able to see the rocket launch, weather permitting and barring any glitches.

Pardon my stupidity- but can we GO to Cape Canaveral that day and see the launch? Is there anything to see? (I've been to CC before but never seen anything launched) My 2yo loves loves airplanes and anything that moves. Wondering if this is worth the trip.

Unless you're already planning to visit the Kennedy Space Center, your best vantage point is probably Jetty Park, just across the Port Canaveral waterway from the south end of the air force station. You would be a couple miles away from the launch pad, but should still have a great view...actually a better view than from KSC. As you look towards the north, the rocket will lift off and climb from left to right.

Jetty Park has a per-vehicle admission fee: $5 for Brevard County residents, and $10 for the rest of us; much less expensive than the space center. There's a 1200' fishing pier which extends into the Atlantic Ocean (good for viewing the cruise ships sailing into and out of Port Canaveral), and a large playground area. Your little one should have a good variety of distractions, especially if for some reason the launch is scrubbed.

x2 for Jetty Park.

I've seen on other sites that Playalinda Beach (north of KSC) is technically closer to the launch than Jetty Park. However, consider these two factors:

You would be looking to the south, and most likely into the sun.

Playalinda Beach, though nice, doesn't have the amenities nearby and on site that Jetty Park has.

This is where I went to watch a Shuttle launch it was a great area to watch from you could see great from the park by the cruise terminal, and has fabulous beach access. We also went to a hole in the wall mexican restaurant right out side of there after the launch was scratched the first time, they had great stuffed tamales.
