"Disney's Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Featuring VAN HALEN" has a nice ring to it!
A hater who listened to their first show at the paradise in Boston on WBCN because I was too young to go to the show?this one is always funny.....always the last resort argument from a hater.
I still vote Muppets by the way......
it's funny how you got worked up for me voicing my opinion, my friend. double standard?
I don't think I said anything that would indicate I am worked up. My post was quite tame and in jest, more then we can say for yours which was much more pointed, almost degrading to the other poster, thus the comment.
A hater who listened to their first show at the paradise in Boston on WBCN because I was too young to go to the show?
A hater who was at their first show at the Orpheum in Boston before people even knew who they were?
That was back when people thought the song Gloria was a song by Shena Easton.
Funny how people will defend Bono over saving taxes and beat up Bill Gates (or any other corporate guy).
(This is a general observation and not directed at you personally, unlike your calling me a hater)
I don't mind him looking to cut his taxes, but don't preach to the rest of us.
Bill gates probably does more for charity then Bono IMO.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand.
I like the Muppets idea.
One thing the Muppets have is proven staying power, but they already have one Muppets area, I cannot see them adding a second.
Insane Clown Posse would be interesting, the music would work on the ride, but they already had their time with Disneyand there is no way Disney would do anything with them ever again.
If the Marvel deal goes through then maybe they can do something with one of those characters. I would like Ghost Rider myself, but not the one from the Movie. Don't see that happening though.
At the end of the day anything but the Jonas Brothers (or any other Disney flavor of the week) works for me.
Hopefully they will just keep it Aerosmith and not make any rush decisions.
I think it works really well, but I do HATE the video at the beginning after seeing it 100s of times.
I think the FCC was asleep on the wheel on that one. Never has there been another show as cynical and sarcastic on the tube than that one....that and Family Guy....but that is another topic. Are these exports that America can be proud of? How do the other countries view us when they see this tripe on TV?
Have you seen some of the shows in Europe? To be honest Americans in general (note I am an American) are some of the most uptight individuals in the world. You can basically catch what most Americans deem as porn on public television in the UK and Europe.
I find Family Guy quite hysterical, it makes fun of everything and everybody, which is why its funny. It points out stereotypes that are often hush, hush, but exist. So which is worst, not talking about a stereotypes and think they'll go away, or flat out pointing them out?
That's unfortunate then that someone's narrow minded view of the band becomes your broad minded view.
I say just use the Imagination Movers and be done with it

I do like the Chili Peppers...lots of hits..totally Hollywood, songs that are perfect for a roller coaster. but didn't the guitarist just leave the band? I heard they are moving on without him, though. He is a great guitarist so sad to see him leave.

I apologize. I did not mean to degrade the other poster. I did not intend that, all I said was that it was unfortunate he felt that way based on a South Park episode. In fact, you could possibily take his comment as degrading toward someone who liked U2. His comment and the other guy who piped in, bringing politics in the mix. I did think his comment was coming out of left field seeing that all I brought up was about the music. It's funny, though. You mention U2 and bring out the haters and the haters that claim that they have been fans for 20+ years, and then they talk about how they disagree with politics but how they love that South Park episode and take the negative media as truth. That's all well and good, but why was it necessary here? And who is "we"? You guys gang up on people around here who disagree?
Since South Park was brought up, I will say I do not get all the South Park worship, though. I think the FCC was asleep on the wheel on that one. Never has there been another show as cynical and sarcastic on the tube than that one....that and Family Guy....but that is another topic. Are these exports that America can be proud of? Yes, I know this. I agree with you to a point, but the way that this type of humor has invaded all of our social consciousness is what I disagree with mostly. FG and SP are/were mainstream and now people are more sarcastic, cynical because of it, IMO. Do you think these shows have helped? I think, if anything, people are more cynical now. Again, nothing is sacred. And, just because something is okay/acceptable in Europe, does that mean everyone should adopt the same principles?
Come on... you can't honestly think that those TV shows have made people more cynical, etc? You are talking about two shows that are lucky to draw 15 million viewers COMBINED per week... when both are in first runs out of the 250 Million Americans.
That's not even close to the Top rated programs. Too many people try to pinpoint that kind of think on a TV show. And that kind of behavior has been prevalent in Films and TV WAY before FG or SP came on the Scene... the Average viewer of both of those shows is late 20's to Early 30's.
Have you watched the Hannah Montana, Suite Life, etc type shows? All the characters show sarcasm and cynicism. You could just as easily point to that as a reason...
But honestly, there is no evidence showing that any of that has any true or lasting effect on kids or adults. Really, its generally behavior learned by watching parental interactions, not TV.
Sorry, I've always found that line of argument (which has been used against various shows and bands for Decades... Elvis, The Beatles, Heavy Metal, Grunge, Britney Spears, The Simpsons, Archie Bunker, etc) to be a big time straw man argument. Every generation its made against pop culture elements of the day. It's the same argument that political figures try to make in election years trying to find a menace to scare voters with, when scientific studies have not shown links to this.
Well first, you are mixing up the two of us... I have never claimed to be a 20 year U2 Fan, did not bring in politics (in fact, I applaud Bono's humantarian work and wish more people with means were like that) and simply said I found it funny and when I see Bono, I think of that episode. In no way did I say or imply my opinion of U2 or Bono was based on a South Park episode. It's not. I've never been a big fan of U2 and have always felt they were overrated as a band... nothing against anyone who loves them, just my opinion is all... I feel the same way about the Rolling Stones... some GREAT songs, but never blown away by the overall body of work... Heck, there are even people out there who hate the Beatles (not me, but some)... we all have our tastes.
I posted more in response to your earlier reply talking about the parody of the pop culture debate on Bono, so please check that out. I simply find the satire in that episode funny and because I find it funny, I think of it when I see the object of the Satire. Kind of like I've been imagining Matt Damon as a hard core psychopathic activist from the Season finale of Entourage, everytime I see an Ocean's 13 or Bourne movie commercial ("Sorry Bro, He Jason Bourned me!)... I don't actually think that Damon's like that, but it was so effectively done he makes me think of it.
South Park is absurdist pop culture satire, as well as parody. Absurdism is a hard genre to watch sometime, but if you are into it and appreciate you can really experience some BRILLIANT satire.
The pop culture nuances and brutal satire are what make the show enjoyable to me. In fact the earlier episodes are my least favorite. If you don't like that kind of thing, then I can understand not appreciating the show. But there is some real brilliance in there... The show constantly points out the stupidity of the public (represented by the adults) as viewed through the eyes of the kids in various situations... either the stupid decisions or how easy they can be manipulated (usually by Cartman). They have parodied Les Miserables (Trey Parker is a big musical fan) and Disney films in the movie. They have parodied Titus Andronicus for goodness sakes (Scott Tenorman must die, still my favorite episode)... They have produced brilliant satire on all types of religion and politics (including a great Elian Gonzalez type episode and Glenn Beck with Cartman turning the morning announcements into a Glenn Beck type show). I mean these two are really intelligent guys and the last 10 years or so have really reminded me of the job the Simpsons did of pushing the pop culture button from Season 4 to about Season 10-11. Try watching it from that point of view sometime and really try to feel the satire and parody... to me that's always the best way to enjoy the show. Of course, some just aren't into Satirical humor and that's cool... took me years to appreciate British Humor and still not a huge Slap Stick humor fan... different strokes. But that's why many of the people who love south park do... kind of like a lot of the Disney and Pixar films, there is an initial visceral level that pleases one group of viewers and a deeper, meaningful level to please others. Count me in the latter group.
Okay, i like your post and I appreciate your reply. I don't doubt their intelligence(the creators of South Park), just sometimes disagree with their method, that's all. Thanks again. Check out Achtung Baby and read what those songs are about...it was enlightening to me. Maybe you will enjoy it as well. Happy New Year to you.
