Not the ride- just me. Tried to ride it 3 times yesterday. Every time I reached a certain point- where stand by joins Fast pass- the ride went down. Happened throughout the day. Made me curious as to why that coaster would go down and what are the common things that happen to make it go down...anyone know?

DH tried to ride it on last 3 trips and one was 2 DHS days and had no luck.
Sad- Ods waited 2 1/2 years to grow and have a chance to return to WDW and sure enough, RnR went down while they were in line. Tried all day but had no luck getting on it. It will be a few years until we have another chance.

we had the same problem yesterday as well. We finally got on 2x but it took a whole day of effort to make it happen. Nephew finally had the courage to ride this trip and that was his #1 priority. We actually got in line 4 times, road 2. The last time we got in line it went down while we were at the merge point but we waited it out.

Outages combined with FP+ makes for a sucky day at DHS if you want to ride SB for anything but ST.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster is a fickle beast of an attraction. It is 15 years old and the only major refurb I can remember (longer than a week) was in 2007 so it probably could use some TLC, both on the technical side and the show side. Unfortunately, without RnRC, Disney's Hollywood Studios does not have a lot of other offerings and I think this might be a big reason why more refurbs do not happen, especially without American Idol and Backlot Tour. Tower of Terror and Star Tours have the benefit of being able to go partial capacity for work to be done on them, but RnRC only has one track so this isn't an option. RnRC is also a Vekoma coaster so somebody from Vekoma (a Dutch company) would most likely be involved with big issues and I feel like that could take time to get Vekoma people or parts.

It is also fickle in that many guest related issues can cause down times. I assume that hats falling in critical areas of the track, guests trying to climb out of vehicles, guests trying to jump the track, or guests wanting to leave the vehicle before launch can all cause minor or major down times. Other things other than technical difficulties that can probably cause down times are doors being opened into the coaster building or fire alarms going off (or sensors saying these things happen). I think they would also close for technical difficulties if the pre-show stops working, even though that would be a blessing for me. :rolleyes1

I'm just glad it isn't outside, because then any rain or lightning would cause down times, for good reason, in that being on a giant metal track with lightning does not sound like a good time. Getting rain hit in your face from 0-60mph also doesn't fit my definition of fun. I guess that's looking on the bright side? It could be worse, but it definitely is a bummer that your families haven't been able to experience the attraction and I wish for good juju in the future.

It is down at least once every day we are in DHS... So definately not uncommon.

Wow I guess I've been very lucky and didn't even realize it. That ride has never been down in all the times I've been at WDW (7 times I think). :yay:

California Screamin' (same style of takeoff as RnRC) in the rain has been described as having acupuncture needles hitting your face with force. Good times, good times. :)

I bet the repeated downtime is more due to things landing on the tracks than many other reasons.

My one and only time at DL I had pleasure of riding front row in rain. Yes it was an experience.

More attractions are shutting down nowadays sometimes due to "intrusion alarms" being compromised by things like GoPro cameras and cell phones (recording video) on a pole being raised into the intrusion "zones". Intrusion sensors think someone is standing up and shut down the attraction and it has to be reset. Just one of several things that is happening more and more now.

That is interesting. Kinda sucks though after you waited 45 mins to get on and somebody shuts it down with their GoPro :furious:

As far as things falling on the track, amazing how many people get on wearing hats or sunglasses on their head or even better, a hat and sunglasses on the hat.

Interesting. When we were just there, we sat waiting for the launch forever. I don't know if this was the only problem, but the guy in front of me kept raising his hands to do a pose for the picture & was repeatedly told to put his hands down. Perhaps setting off the intrusion alarms? Either way, when we finally got going and I saw the photos at the end, he was making the same pose, but with his hands way down low and a goofy face - sure hope he bought that picture and treasures it always! :upsidedow
