I just wanted to share my disappointment!! Splash Mountain and Rock and Roller Coaster will be closed for Refurb while we are there in Jan. I know they must refurb these rides during slower times but I am soooo disappointed. We have been on these rides so many times but this trip we are bringing are extended family and they have never been on. Boy I am now sad. I will get passed it but I am so sad right now. Anyway I thought it might help to share. :guilty: :guilty: :guilty: :guilty: :guilty:

I understand that...I can empathize. When I was there in May this year, POTC was closed down. Disney is not a trip to Disney unless I ride POTC several times.

I tried to make up for it by riding HM 5 times, PPF 3 times and BLYSRS (Buzz) 4 times during my visit, but it just was not the same.

Sorry to hear that. I don't know if it's any consolation, but when we took my brother and his wife for the first they were happy to see and do whatever we did. They only had 2 days, so they didn't get to cover much. They said being it's their first time, they have no clue what they are missing. Their favorite park ended up being MGM studios, which really surprised me.

I feel your pain!!! We're going Jan 3-8 and will miss those rides, too. Guess we'll have to ride something else twice. :woohoo:

Yeah me too........ My son is finally big enough to ride Rockn' Roller Coaster but not he won't be able to ride... Now MGM might not be the place to visit twice this time... I have 2 boys ages 6 and 9...

I've already ranted on another thread about this so I feel your pain! Since, RnRC is our favorite WDW ride, we may just skip MGM altogether on this trip and head over to Universal for the day! I'm also looking into the possibility of renting a limo, bringing an Aerosmith CD and building some looping ramps in the MGM parking lot. :lmao:

I know it stinks, but its the bad side of going in January. They need to refurb sometime, and this is the time when the least amount of people are there.

I've been in January many times, and something is always closed. But keep in mind that the other great rides, Space Mountain, BTMRR, ToT, E:E, and so on will have the short wait times of nearly any time of the year. You'll get to see those over and over again. It's a great time to go

I agree, something is always closed in January. We got then a lot because of DS and DD's birthdays, so we just find other things to do.

You know, I will actually be there for New Years Eve..... Do you think I should give up Epcot that night to do MGM, just so we can ride RnRc, Will MGm have enough to keep us entertained for 12 hours??????

You could go to MGM early in the morning just to ride RnR and then head to Epcot. RnR will be open Jan 1st too.

I don't have a park hopper.... And on Jan 1st I will be at MK to ride Splash Mt before they shut it down...............

Let me say first that not every family is the same. Our family loves MGM, and we could certainly spend an entire day there. Here are a few of our favorite things:

DS12 - Rock n' Roller, Star Tours, Backlot Tour, Stunt Show.

DD6 - Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Character autographs, Honey I shrunk the kids movie set.

Mom - Parade, Sci Fi Drive In, Great Movie Ride, shopping at the stores on Hollywood Boulevard.

Dad - Muppets 3D, a beer and 'smores from the lounge by the 50's Prime Time, Indiana Jones, Animation Tour.

And, of course, the greatest extravaganza in ALL of Disney World, FANTASMIC!!!

You know, after reading my list above, I realize why we always need two days to visit MGM. There is SO much to do!

Do'h!

Was unaware of the news that Rock n' Rollercoaster / Splash Mountain will be down :guilty:

Is there an estimated date these will be up and running again?

Thanks

I know exactly what you mean. We're going to have been at the World three times this year to make up for missing POTC. I'm still not so sure it was enough. Ok so maybe that's not ultimately why we've gone three times this year but it makes for a good excuse in any event.

I believe that Splash MT will be down for the whole month of Jan. but RnRC will only be down from Jan 2-21. Good luck!!

We decided to leave a couple of days earlier, just to ride those rides....we are horrible...but it isn't Disney without Splash Mtn.

The thing that surprises me is they are closing 2 of the marquee rides at the same time. I know how oyu feel though. I go to Universal and Busch Gardens every January. Last year, Dudley Do-Right and Kumba were closed...I was bumming.
