Rock In Canada

I was waiting for Illuminations to begin in Canada at the Kodak Picture Spot.There is a huge rock there and ,all of a sudden,the top of it opened up and a pole with something attached to it came out of the rock.I just shook my head and thought there is no where else I would see something like this other than WDW.Has anyone else seen this?

My DD22 swears that is the best place to watch Illuminations. She says, yes, she has seen this happen and it is a speaker.

We watched Illuminations in Canada around the rocks. But when the show is about to start, people start to climb on the rocks to watch the show. of course they get uncomfortable and slide down like you are suppose to move out of their way and then they take your spot. I think if the park is full it might be a good viewing area, but not if the park is full.

It is indeed a speaker (and lights), with the ability to move it up and down manually from behind the rock on the lagoon side (takes a key). Each night, a CM must do this before Illuminations begins.

There were many a night we had to ask guests to get off of the rocks, the walls, the benches, the gates, etc. as they were trying to secure the 'best' spot to watch illuminations. I say that on top of the stairs behind the rope by the trading post (still in Canada) is one of the best spots to view it.

I took a photo of DD and DH on the rocks and didn't notice anything. I'll have to check next time.

Thanks for the replies!It had been a long day-glad to know I wasn't "seeing things"! It really was quite a sight to see;I had no idea what was going on.It seems like there is always something new to discover at WDW.Do speakers appear in the other countries during Illuminations?
