Rock Band Wii question! hellp!

My MIL got us Rock Band for the Wii for Xmas. The whole instrument bundle. This is the OLDER version, that came out earlier this year. We realized after opening it up that we actually wanted Rock Band 2...but now we are stuck. If we go buy the stand alone disc of Rock Band 2, it should work with the RB1 instruments for Wii...right? And then we can get the downloadable content, online play, and all that good stuff that Rock Band 2 has...right? Is there anything else I need to know? I'm pretty sure we can then also use our GH3 guitars too, right? What about the microphone?

Help! We really wanted RB2 for the cooler newer upgrades. I'm hoping if I just buy the standalone disc and use it with the RB1 instruments, we'll have what we need.

Anything else that I need to know, or that I am forgettin? DH is ready to run to Best Buy first thing in the morning!

Yes you are correct on MOST counts... You can not use GH instruments with Rockband.

Just get the RB2 disk

Yes, you should be able to use the insturments. My DS actually wanted the original Rock Band, so that's what we got. According to him, the instrument bundle will also work with all the Guitar Hero discs too. My niece, who works at Target, spends some of her paycheck getting all the latest games, and DS says she did it that way too, so I'm assuming they'd know.

And this is for the Wii? I don't understand how that could work. I mean I know there is a Base player option on GH3...but not a drum option?


So what I'm hearing is I can go out, buy the RB2 disc, and have all the cool upgrade features, EXCEPT I will still need to get another guitar, because my GH3 guitar won't work with it?

Sorry guys....just want to make sure we get this right.

Yeah, from what I understand, the GH instruments will not work with Rock Band. That kinda sucks, 'cause I wanted the Les Paul that's available for GH, but wanted to get RB2 so I could download the entire Foo Fighters album The Colour and the Shape. I ended up opting for the latter, since it's what was most important to me, and thankfully, the guitar was actually $30 off at GameStop this morning!

ETA: It was for the Wii. Not sure if it was on sale for the other game platforms or not.

I'm not sure about the Wii, we have the Xbox 360 and the Guitar Hero guitar works with Rockband 2. It came in handy as we had a full band with guitar and bass.
