Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster to be rethemed

I think is what confuses me/makes me think the whole street is inserting you into the 1930s - the cars and Citizens of Hollywood are from that era, they play 1930’s jazz in the courtyard at the Tower of Terror, etc

So clearly I am thinking about the timeline of riding the attraction wrong but the setting all feels like the 1930s so I think that is why the more modern Rock N Roller Coaster seems out of place, even if it is using “classic rock” it’s still more “modern” than the rest of the street

G Force records has its history tied in with the Tower also shown somewhat in the queue. Founded in 1930 (or so may have the year wrong), it also faced a rough period after the lightning strike in 1939 as did all of the "dark side of Hollywood". G Force recovered with Classic Rock artists as seen prominently featured in the queue. I think that's most of the backstory.

I definitely am interested in this tied backstory. I’ve never heard it before, but all the lore that imagineers insert into a given area intrigues me

Hollywood Tower Hotel was founded in 1917. When we were there Aug 2017, we noticed the cornerstone of the hotel proclaiming this. We commented to the CMs that the hotel was celebrating its 100th Birthday!

We were hoping to buy Hollywood Tower Hotel 100th Birthday shirts, or something, but the CM said they didn't have any. Apparently, no one thought of it, disappointingly.

Regarding the theme of sunset blvd; quite simply, it's a huge mess.

You have modern era: RnRC
You have a haunted hotel, that was abandoned in 1939, but set in present day. Yet, the theme of the surrounding area is a bit confusing in that
You have streetmosphere that's from the golden age of hollywood

I wish Disney would publish books with all the backstories in them. There's tons of it all over the place in spread to pretty much every corner of the parks. Finding it can be tough and easily overlooked, but it's also one of my favorite things to look for.

agreed - and a lot of times the guests don't know it and it often adds too the experience. Even with things people aren't huge fans of - say Chester and Hester's area of Dinoland or the Na'vi River Journey - if people understood the backstory they might appreciate the attractions at least a bit more

Even in say Asia and Africa in AK, which are incredibly themed, there’s some cool backstory stuff that’s gets overlooked. Imagineers are truly world builders

I believe Joe Rhode's original idea for AK is for it to be explored and they weren't going to have any signs in the park, etc. - so I think that is one reason the back stories - as far as being upfront with the public about them - are even less conveyed than in the other parks

But it's a great point as there is soooo much detail in AK (the flags for example, etc.) that goes overlooked.

One of my favorites is the drawing of Mickey on the side in one of the buildings with the caption "Fichwa! Fellow" ... and in Swahili "Fichwa" means "hidden" - so it is a "hidden" Mickey

One of those acts happens to be 13th Floor Elevators - an actual psychedelic rock band from the late 1960s. You can see one of their posters in the queue for Rock 'n Roller Coaster. I think it's safe to say that their inclusion is not a coincidence with ToT just across the street.

I'm not a die-hard Aerosmith fan nor is my wife or 8-year old. Still, we enjoy the attraction; from theming to queue to the ride itself.

I understand many think the ride should be re-themed simply because of the band and/or the fact the band is "so old". But I think that's what adds some legitimacy to the ride itself; their longevity. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if Disney were to replace them with another band or do away with the entire act altogether. Still, I'm sure the bands others would choose to replace them with would be not-so-high on others' list (personally, I think the bands I often see come up as suggestions for replacement are no better than Aerosmith). So with that said, I think this ride fits the niche they intended quite well. You don't have to be an Aerosmith fan to enjoy it. And you don't have to be 60 to know who they are (the implication is a given once you get in the queue). It works. I don't see a reason to change it just to please some and anger others. People are riding it without hesitation, despite the fact they don't have Aerosmith on any of their playlists (or didn't before they rode the ride ;)).

To me that would be the most likely retheme. Could see them update effects/scenery and the preshow video and go with a new band, but think they should keep the studio theme. fits well for that Hollywood area well. I don't mind these immersive IP environments, especially for that park. But hope they keep the entryway and Boulevard up to ToT themed to Hollywood. Looks nice and keeps some history to the park and feels immersive. IT done'st have that tacky studio feel they want to get rid of.
