Greetings Everyone: I'm new to the forum, and this is my first post. We're planning a trip to WDW for Labor Day weekend. Can't wait. We'll be staying in the FW cabins, and I had a question about the campfire. I've already bought and set aside smore's fixin's to bring with us, but I wondered if I need to bring roasting sticks. Do they have roasting sticks there? Do they charge for roasting sticks?

Thanks for any help.

David

I believe the only way to get the sticks from what I remember of taking the kids to the campfire is to buy the smores stuff at the snack bar place. I don't think they sell them or give them out otherwise.

OK, so it sounds like we need to bring roasting sticks if we bring our own smores stuff, and don't purchase the kit at the campfire. Right?

Yes, I believe you have to bring your own sticks if you bring your own smores or marshmallows. You might be able to purchase only the sticks at the Chuck Wagon (the snack bar by the campfire) - couldn't hurt to call Ft. Wilderness and ask. Here is a link to the menu for the Chuck Wagon - http://allearsnet.com/menu/menu_cw.htm .

Welcome to the DIS!

Thanks again. That's helpful. I noticed on the All Ears link you included it says "extra sticks, $0.33". I think I'm going to try to find some here though before we go down so I don't have to worry about it.

I appreciate the welcome!

We get ours from WalMart--the dowel rods from the craft department. We buy them by the dozen and after we roast we just toss them in the fire. I had some of the metal ones but they were soooo sharp.

When we went in May we brought everything for s'mores except for the sticks. We purchased them at the chuckwagon. They are dowels and make great sticks because they don't have a sharp end. I think they were .35 cents.

Well, I'm not sure this is what you mean, but you just roast your marshmallow and then slide it off the stick by sandwiching it between your graham crackers and chocolate.

I'm sure everyone has their own special technique, though. My son likes to stick a small piece of chocolate inside his marshmallow before he roasts it. Then, of course there are wonderful on-the-grill s'mores recipes that involve bananas, chocolate chips, and marshmallows. Yum!

Florida_Mom,

Would you mind giving the recipe? I think I might have seen it somewhere but I doubt I could find it now!

TIA

Well, I actually saw it on Food Network, I think, and I haven't been camping since I saw it made on that show, but it went something like this:

Peel back the skin of a banana and cut out some of the banana. Inside, place chocolate chips and top with mini marshmallows. Place skin back. Wrap in aluminum foil. Place on your grill or in your fire embers. When you take the banana off the grill, open the banana up and top with nuts and/or graham cracker crumbs.

Here's another one I found online:

Banana Split Sundae

Serves 1

Do not peel banana. Slice lengthwise half-way through, spread open and sprinkle chocolate chips, mini-marshmallows & nuts into the banana. Wrap with heavy Reynolds Wrap and toss into your fire pit embers for about 10 minutes (approximately). Remove and open carefully, treat yourself with whipped cream, close your eyes and you will think you are eating a real banana split! Enjoy.

And here's a website I found with yummy camping recipes. Have fun!

You're welcome. I can't wait to go camping at FW in November and try out that recipe myself!
