Does anyone have one of those portable roaster ovens that you can put on the counter and cook your turkey in? I saw this on a tv show and thought what a great idea. It would free up my oven. I saw them online at Target - They are $70.00. Does anyone have any idea on where I can get one possibly cheaper? Does anyone have one, if so how well does it work?

I don't have one, but I've seen them at target and walmart for about $25. They were marked downs after Tgiving.

herc.

I LOVE mine. I actually use it in the garage so I have my counter clear for all the other stuff. It cooks the turkey quicker and keeps the juices in better. One thing though, the skin does not brown the same way as it does in a normal oven.

Check Big Lots and Sears and see if they are running any specials. Also Walmart might have them cheap too!

We were gifted a Cuisinart Rotisserie off of our wedding registry and we LOVE it! You can cook up to a 7lb bird in it and that's what we did for Thanksgiving. Also we have cooked chicken breasts, thighs and other parts and also pork. Everything comes out so yummy and it's a snap to clean up.

But... it's not very 'budget' for the machine. The one we have retails at $200 and I wouldn't have ever bought it myself. We were shocked that someone bought it off of our Macy's registry for us!

I need to cook a 20 lb turkey in it. The ones that you guys bought so cheaply were they big enough to cook a 20 lb turkey? I would LOVE to get one that cheap.

I bought mine at either Walmart or Target for around $25 years ago. It's a Rival or GE, you set the oven temp, I let it heat up, then add the turkey or ham or whatever. I LOVE it. That is the moistest turkey I have ever eaten. It was a desperation purchase for me--it was the first year I needed two turkeys for Thanksgiving. I'm using it for ham for Christmas, so much easier to have the oven free for other things, easier to travel with the food, too.
Just cook your turkey as usual, keep in mind it won't be quite as brown on top, but it will taste great!

Is yours a 18 quart one? On line it says that it will hold a 20 lb turkey and when I called the guy from the store said that it will hold a 18 lb turkey. Anyone know? At Target he said that it is only $39.99. Awesome. Now if someone would just send over a cleaning fairy!!!

I've been trying to get Sears and Walmart on the line for 1/2 hour and one is busy and one won't answer. so frustrating.

Dex08-What the op is talking about is like a crockpot. It sits on the counter and looks like a big covered pan.

I bought one last year from Building 19 (I was surprised to find it there and I got the only one). I have seen them for about $40-50 at Target and Walmart. It cooked my ham last year just fine. Thinking about taking it out for Christmas this year.

i have four of them. :lmao: i got them last year on clearance at target for $9.99 each. The women at the register thought i was crazy for buying that many

Giving my parents one for Christmas...that I got on clearance for $20 at Target after the holidays last year...I've never used one myself though

I also got the 9.99 clearance one last year. haven't used it yet, but it does say up to 18 lb bird.

I have used mine for large spiral hams and turkeys. I only use it if oven space is a problem. It does the job, but the results are not as good as cooking in my oven with convection.

We have one. It's good to use to make big batches of spaghetti sauce and chili.

I have one as well...I think it is 18Qt. I cook my turkey it it as well as roast, and other big meals. It is GREAT!!!

I've tried to find one for a while and the largest one I've found in stores is for 18-20 pound turkeys. Sadly...we always have 20-25 pound turkeys, so I don't think they'd work for us on a regular basis. I've seen a few larger ones online but they are sooooo pricey! I may have to invest in one next year though, I have a double oven but I still need to get the turkey in something else so I can cook the ham and casseroles...etc.

I bought a 22 qt Hamilton Beach at Costco before Thanksgiving. It was about $40 then. It can cook up to a 24 lb bird if I remember correctly. I love it. It was great to have the extra oven space and my turkey came out great! We had discussions about it over on the cooking board.
