Roaring Forks, worth trip to WL

for lunch and just check out the resort and then head to MK or EP? In 12 trips Ive never been to WL and we were making this trip different, getting lunch or breakfast at different resorts two or three times out of our trip..

WHat did you get for lunch that was good?

Anyone know what kind of pastas they have?

Hear sandwhiches are good but the pasta salad they come with is not good, can you subsitutute fries or chips..

Honestly I wouldn't go to WL just to eat at Roaring Forks. It is a CS with your typical CS food.

Do I think WL is worth checking out? Yes, it is a really nice resort and if you go check it out make sure to wander over to the WLV side to look at the pictures and mini train from Walt. And wander around the grounds to check out the animal prints/tracks in the sidewalks. And make it up to the various floors in the main building where there are little sitting/reading nooks and artifacts around the walkway.

I agree with this. Roaring Fork isn't bad, but I wasn't impressed by the lunch/dinner fare. Breakfast was better, though. But if you do get a chance definitely stop over and visit the WL, it is a gorgeous resort.

I am in agreement as well. The food is ok if you want lunch at the lodge go to WC. The food is very good there. Roaring forks is not worth the trip.

We love WL and it's great if you want to do a resort tour, but the food at RF is nothing special. We grab it sometimes when staying there because of where it is, not what it is. It however is fine if you need CS and want to check out the resort. DS & DH like WCC but I find is too crazy and loud.
AP is very nice but it is Signature dining and a little pricy.

I agree, if you go there eat at WCC. But, if you must eat at CS only then go for the burgers that are grilled when ordered and come with fries or pasta salad. Pretty good but still just a resort CS option.

During our last trip in 2008, we intentionally scheduled a non-park evening trip to the Wilderness Lodge for dinner at Whispering Canyon. Not only was it one of the more enjoyable meals we've ever had at WDW, subsequently exploring this gorgeous (and under-appreciated) property sold us on trying it out - which we are doing in June!!!

So follow the advice you're getting here - plan a seated meal and allocate some time to really smell the flowers. Wilderness Lodge can't be appreciated in a hurry.

I wouldn't go there just to eat at Roaring Fork but if you're going to be there already looking at the resort, I don't think it's better or worse than any other resort CS place.

If you decide to go to Whispering Canyon for lunch it might help if you have a reservation. I've been turned away from lunch there before.

I agree with PPs. We love WL and are staying there again this summer, but Roaring Forks as a CS is just average. We don't really enjoy eating there a lot for our quick service meals. We do like Whispering Canyon and that is more worth the trip.

Totally in agreement-RF is definitely not a destination. The food is average and the seating area is very small. There is much better selection/variety in the parks. It is OK if you are staying at WL-otherwise skip it.

Thanks guys! I knew I could count on my Disers to be honest. I had planned the lunch at WL just so we could check it out, in the past we havent done alot of exploring other resorts so we are making this trip different..
I will only have a CS credit left to use so I thought going to WL and exploring and then using a CS before taking boat over to MK would be perfect..
I already have breakfast and lunch planned (CS) at Poly on other days and we will be staying at CSR so Im sure we will eat a meal or two at PM, does anyone have suggestions for a lunch (CS) at a close by resort?
How is the CS at GF or CR?

We very much enjoy the cs at CR. At Contempo Cafe, you order by screen and then wait for your food. The atmosphere is nice because you can watch the monorails come and go (it's next to Chef Mickey's) and the food is pretty good.

We love the WL and is a resort worth touring...We missed it so much that last trip we did head over to the Roaring Forks for dinner...It was a really nice time...I love the tuna there and DH really likes the burger...It is nice to sit outside if the weather permits...I agree that it not "terrific" but most counter services aren't...It is a nice way to spend some down time, that is for sure...We did it and would do it again!

I'd second the reccomendation for the Contempo Cafe. We usally stay at Ft Wilderness on the Dining Plan, so I've checked out most of the CS options around Bay Lake. While I really like the WL and Roaring Forks is a nice CS, the Contempo is my favorite resort CS option. Besides the electronic ordering, the menu has a little more 'upscale' spin on the basic pizza and burger type dishes.

Seeing the WL is worth going to the WL, not eating at Roaring Forks. It is very run of the mill. But, the resort is beautiful and worth seeing!

We've only stayed at WL and love it! Just like everyone has said, RF food is nothing to get excited over, but DO grab a cupcake from there. They are YUMMY!

I will agree that Roaring Forks is not something I would make plans around to dine at; however, I thought the food was exactly what I expect at most cs restaurants, average. My opinion is if you are planning on visiting the WL(which is well worth checking out) and it falls into your schedule around lunchtime then don't fret about RF and go there. There are only three counter serves in WDW that I try to schedule my time around and they are all in Epcot; Tangierine Cafe (Morocco), Sunshine Seasons (The Land), and for pastries Boulangerie Patisserie (France).
