Hi all,

Newcomer to the forum so please be gentle. I’ve heard there is a lot of roadwork going on the 192 route which is causing a lot of traffic jams. Can anyone who has just returned confirm if this is true?

We are travelling out on the 2nd of April. Can’t wait.

Raz

Hi Raz and welcome to the DIS!

Sorry I can't answer your question as we're going out a few days before you. Everybodies really helpful on here and I'm sure that you'll have an answer before too long!

Sorry I can't answer the question - but I am interested in the answers. We fly out before you and Sam.

There are two sets of roadworks on the 192 .One near the Super Wal mart at Medievil times and one set at the 192/I-4 junction depends where you are staying as to whether they will affect you

Hi Jan

Thanks for the info. We're travelling with TravelCity Direct who will allocate a villa on arrival, so not sure were we're staying at the moment. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that majority of the work will be done by the time we get there.

Regards,

Raz, unfortunately, these roadworks are set to last for about 2 years! The stretch down by medieval times and the 192 Wal-Mart is HORRENDOUS and should be avoided at all costs. The 192/I4 section isnt so bad, but there were tailbacks of several miles over Christmas.

Never fear, as there are plenty of back roads to use. Chances are you will have a villa west of the I-4 and WDW, either off of the 192 itself (Formosa Gnds area or Lindfields) or off of US27. Either of these locations mean you can avoid most of the road works.

I would suggest getting a GOOD and RECENT map from Amazon - a rand Mcnally or similar. Ignore totally the rubbish "tourist" ones as they are misleading. There is an excellent "short cut" to WDW via roads off of the 192 (before the roadworks) and you can then use the Osceola Parkway to get most anywhere (including back on the I4 further up away from the works).

I can describe the route for you in detail, but you will probably be better off with a decent map as you dont know exactly where you will be staying.

Let me know if you require more info.

Allie

weve been going since early 90s and there has always been road works on 192.Think best sign for road works was when we went to HH on I-95 said roadworks for the next 250 miles

Returned yesterday and stayed on the 192. Travelled various directions every day and yes, there are roadworks and no they are not causing serious delays.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it and would not avoid any part of the 192, just relax and enjoy the air-con.

Thanks to all for there comments. Really appreciate it.

I’m going to take Allie’s advice and invest a in a good map before we leave.

Hope you had a great time David.

We arrived back yesterday after spending two weeks staying in a villa just off Highway 27. We had daily problems on the 192 between mile markers 4 and 7 - in both directions. There are also major road works on I4 that caused traffic snarl ups with mile after mile of bumper-to-bumper traffic. In the end, even though the most direct route to our villa from Orlando or WDW was to head west along the 192 and then south on highway 27, we found it much quicker to use the I4 west and then come north on 27.

The strange thing is that there really aren't that many road works on the 192 to have caused this; the traffic was just very heavy. It was taking upto 40 minutes to travel the 6 miles of the 192 between WDW and highway 27 - now that is a huge pain to deal with on a daily basis.

I can't say what traffic was like in Kissemee as we didn't use that side of the 192. To be honest, the fact that we had to fight with this traffic on a daily basis has put us off staying on highway 27 again - as a normal 25 min run to International Drive was taking anything upto an hour. It was a real pain to deal with. :sad2:

Didnt you know about the shortcut via Sherberth Rd? We usually stay off of US27 and there is a very handy shortcut just past the Orange Lakes Resort on the 192 (way before the traffic jams). This takes you into Disney and onto the Osceola Parkway, which in turn takes you to the I-4 up past the roadworks.

Its a great shame you didnt know about this, as it could have saved you about 35 mins a day each way. You DONT need to negotiate the 6 mile stretch of the 192 between the 27 and WDW, so dont let it put you off future trips! WDW is reachable in about 10-15 minutes on this route. You can also join I-Drive South using the Osceola Pkwy and follow it right up to the attractions if the I-4 is blocked further up.

Really, the roadworks can be avoided, and even at Xmas when the traffic was manic, we were still averaging 15 mins for the Disney Parks and 25 mins to I-Drive.

We found this route in 2001 when the 192 west was being dug up (average journey time to WDW, 40 mins :(). DH followed a Disney bus and hey presto, a shortcut!

Once again, dont let it put you off- there are lots of back roads that are easy to find and use.

I hope your holiday was wonderful apart from that.

Allie

Nope - didn't know about that short cut, at least I do for the next visit, Thanks! :flower:

Hi Allie,

With all this talk of roadwork’s can you help out an Orlando first timer (in two weeks).

Will I have any trouble traveling from MCO airport to Roaring Creek CT, Kissimmee?
What about getting to WDW/ I-drive/Universal from this address?

Its not that I’m concerned about driving in the US, I just don’t want to waste our holiday
In the jams!

Thanks,
Dave

I agree with Allie 5 use Sherbeth going and Black Lake coming back to get to the 27 from WDW Also if you are heading toward the 535 use the Polynesian Isles Bvd turning and this will bring you out just south of the LBV factory stores -much better than travelling the 192 to get to the 535 turning.Don't give up onthe 27 its a great location and an up and coming one

Just make sure you know what route you're taking out of MCO and where you're going. Take the south exit out of the Airport onto the Greeneway just continue all the way to I-4...the best bet would to probably be to exit onto World drive up to US-192 and then find your place. There won't be too many traffic problems as the CFG is never very busy. You're right near WDW entrance so that shouldn't be a problem. As for Universal/I-Drive, you'll need to catch I-4 from US-192 and traffic is hit and miss there but you should be ok at most times of the day.

There is a way round this too, you dont need to use this route to get to I-Drive. Use the Osceola Pkwy from Sherberth Rd, then I-Drive South (briefly cross the 535) then onto I-Drive north where you can pick up Universal Boulevard for attractions beyond Sea World.

Have PM'd you a more detailed route Dave.

Allie

Yeah but If I-4 is running smooth its usually faster than going around that way- I do use that way to get to the Premium Outlets though.
