I just heard of something called a VCR in a bag - it is a VCR with a 4" monitor that you can suspend between the back of the front 2 seats - looks pretty coll. The problem is - the one that I saw is a 4" monitor...... anyone know of a larger monitor (maybe 8 or 9 inches)?

we have a 9" TV/VCR combo that runs on AC/DC power

we strap it to the center console between the front seats - facing the rear!

We have the same as Trekker and it also runs on AC/DC power...I love it because the kids don't get cranky while riding! LOL

We purchased the following a year ago: http://www.buychoice.com/BuyChoice/...mId=4274&catcd=3&prodCode=699&prodLinecd=264. It's 10.4 inches and has been great on road trips. We paid $1019, and it's now $999. I compared it to the built-in models except that it had a bigger screen and is transportable, meaning we get to keep it when we get rid of the van some day. I can't image actually trying to watch anything on the tiny 4" screens. We looked at possibly buying 2 of the smaller screens to mount on the headrests, but the cost was rapidly approaching that of the large monitor, so we decided to do that.

I have the Video in a Bag. I bought it specifically because we drive to Disney World. Although the screen is small it is not that bad because you are close to it when you are watching it.

I originally bought a 9" VCR/TV combo but decided against using it due to safety concerns of trying to tie it down. I read some threads here last year that made me change my mind. Video in a bag is made by Audiovox and since it is made for the car it has much better speakers than the VCR/TV. The volume is much higher so that it is easier to hear over the road noise. It also has a connection for two headphones. For the price, $299 I felt it was well worth it. Anything else with a larger screen would have been either much more money or would have to be permanently installed.

I have the Audiovox too and it is great. The monitor size is not an issue because you're within a foot of it in the back seat. It has two head phone jacks and you could hook nintendo as well.
I used the CD adapter in my wifes car and hooked it up using the head phone jack to the cassette player and we could listen to it in 4 speaker stereo! I can't drive to WDW because we are in Oregon, but a 9 hour drive to see my Mom in California make the trip soooo different! Hope this helps....:)

Today I went and looked for the VCR in a Bag. Target and Circuit City both had the Rampage(made my Audiovox). K-Mart had a different brand......you suspended the VCR between the two front seats with some straps, the screen attached behind the front seat headrest. That won't work for me because I'm driving a Blazer and there's not enough room.
We do have the 9"VCR/TV combo in our big van, but this trip it's just my son(8) and I driving down and I feel better driving my own smaller Blazer than my husbands big van.
All 3 I looked at ran about $250.
Anyone else find another price or brand?????

Thanks! :)

If the other one that you were looking at is made by Steel Horse with the separate monitor that is not attached to the VCR unit, stay away from it. The Rampage (Audiovox) is a much better VCR for rhe price. The Steel Horse has tiny speakers that are no bigger than headset speakers. We have no trouble hearing the sound over the road noise with the Audiovox. the Audiovox has several picture adjustments that the other one does not have such as contrast and color. The Audiovox does hang between the seats but the instructions also show that it can be placed on a seat and attached to a safety belt.

$250 is a great price, we paid $299 over the summer.

Another alternative is a portable DVD player but they are more expensive and you would have to hold it in your lap to watch it.
