Roadtrip - Destination...There is no destination!

We went to Phoenix AZ once. We went to the Rocking R Ranch for the dinner show and loved it. They have a ghost town, did a shoot-out, and then provided a wagon train style dinner show. Also panned for gold at another nearby place.

Durango and Silverton is awesome! Get your tickets in advance. If you want a train ride outside of Denver, the Georgetown Loop RR is awesome and not a far drive on 70 west of Denver. There is a great train museum in Golden as well. Jill in CO

I have the tickets already. DS is a HUGE train fanatic from way back, so I made sure I got those! But thanks! Not sure if we'll have time for the Georgetown Loop RR, but I'll check it out! Thanks!

If he loves trains, go to the Golden museum at some point....It's amazing! My dad is a huge steam train buff, so I've been to almost all the trains in the West. :)

More great ideas! Thanks!

We actually live within walking distance of the Brookfield Zoo in IL, as a matter of fact, the driveway to the south entrance/parking lot of the zoo runs between our High School and the HS football field :) Many people in our school district purchase annual zoo passes just to have access to that parking lot for school events! So, although I am sure there are so many awesome zoos out there, we probably will have other experiences on our trip.

We definitely would want to make sure we have time for off the beaten path things, and time to just soak up the atmosphere, especially in the mountains and grand canyon, and even the desert. That might sound weird to people who live in those places, but I understand...it's kind of like the people who come to Chicago and want to wait in line for 90 minutes (and pay!) to ride an elevator to the skydeck of the Sears Tower LOL But when you don't live somewhere, the novelty of doing something you cannot do at home is part of the fun!

Slide Rock is a must do. It is a natural water slide. It is in AZ, between Flagstaff / Sedona area. Sorry it has been about 3 years since we went, but we still talk about it and going back. Sedona is beautiful. I recommend the Sky Ranch Lodge. The Drury Inn in Flagstaff is great. Good location and the extra food/drink perks. Sounds like an awesome trip!

I live in Scottsdale, AZ there is plenty to see and do here as any other state in the country. The Grand Canyon is not to be missed as it is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Flagstaff is a cute little town with part of the old RT66 area left. Sedona is beautiful with the natural red rock formations, jeep tours and hiking passes are available. I have also been to slide rock it is a great place to cool off and ride the natural slide. A place that has not been mentioned is Tombstone in Tucson, AZ. That is a great place to go if you would like to travel back in time. Kartchner Caverns if you like caves that is a neat experience. As for Phoenix there are things to do but it is like your typical big city in any one of the states. I hope that helps a little. I have never been to Colorado or Utah so I have no experience with those beautiful states. I also forgot about the painted desert in between New Mexico and Arizona.

It sounds good..but..if you could make the New Mexico loop lower it might have more fun stuff for the kids. Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands, Roswell, Space Museum..etc.
