Hi all. We're planning to drive from Delaware to Port Canaveral on July 12 for the July 13 Magic sailing. If anyone out there has been on any portion of I-95 between DE and FL that is closed or under some kind of large-scale construction, would you be able to clue me in on it? We already know we have a LOT of driving to do Friday but want to get as close to the port as we can before we stop for the night. We have two children so we will have to manage our stops as best we can

Thanks for any advice!

Elly

I have no recent personal experience with I-95, but I ran your trip through AAA online and came up with these possible areas of construction. Maybe someone who's driven I-95 recently can confirm these:

Maryland
Construction/delays possible: I-95; Exit 22 (Aberdeen)
Construction/delays possible: I-95; Exit 64 to Exit 77
Construction/delays likely: I-895; Baltimore Harbor Tunnel
Construction/delays likely: I-95; Woodrow Wilson Bridge
Construction/delays likely: I-95/495: Woodrow Wilson Bridge
Construction/delays likely: I-95: I-395 and I-495 jct.

Virginia
Construction/delays likely: I-95; Exit 86
Rough Road: I-95; Exit 173 to the Virginia state line
Construction/delays likely: I-95; Exit 145 to Exit 154

North Carolina
Construction/delays likely: I-95; Exit 115 to Exit 123
Construction/delays possible: I-95; Exit 56 to Exit 61

Georgia
Construction/delays likely: I-95; Exit 126AB to GA state line

Florida
Construction/delays likely: I-95; Exit 118 to Exit 120 (Jacksonville)

Enjoy your cruise!

DH and I did the trip at the end of March and we had no problems on the way down that I can recall. There was a little bit of construction around Baltimore and I remember some congestion north bound in Florida but no major projects that I remember.

How funny, CarolG! I was working with AAA's Internet TripTik® as well, but you posted first. Oh well, since I did the work, here's what I got:

Maryland:
Construction/delays possible: I-95; Exit 85 (Aberdeen)
Construction/delays possible: I-95; Exits 77 to 64
Construction/delays likely: I-895; Baltimore Harbor Tunnel

Maryland/Virginia line:
Construction/delays likely: I-95/495: Woodrow Wilson Bridge

Virginia:
Construction/delays likely: I-95: I-395 and I-495 jct.
Construction/delays likely: I-95; Exit 86

North Carolina:
Rough Road: I-95; Virginia state line to Exit 173
Construction/delays likely: I-95; Exits 154 to 145
Construction/delays likely: I-95; Exits 123 to 115
Construction/delays possible: I-95; Exits 61 to 56

Florida:
Construction/delays likely: I-95; Georgia state line to Exit 126AB
Construction/delays likely: I-95; Exits 120 to 118

Depending on when you are going through Jacksonville, I suggest going around it instead of through it. It's really bad during the day :(

Hi there. We drove from Richmond, VA to Port Canaveral for our 4/27/02 cruise. We left Thursday afternoon at 2:00 pm and we drove straight through to Cocoa Beach in 14 hours. We stopped many, many times since we have a 4-1/2 year old. We were going to spend the night in Jacksonville, but once we got there, I was too excited to sleep. Therefore, I kept on driving, and we got to the Hampton Inn at 3:45 AM. It really was not bad at all. No major traffic issues for us. Good luck, and have a safe trip.

We just drove all the way from WV to the Port on a Saturday, and experienced none of the above mentioned delays.

Oh by the way, this way June 8.

Hope this helps.

Enjoy!!!
Anny:)

Thanks everyone for the great advice! Printed off the posts to take with us, that way we shouldn't run into any surprises.

Thanks again!

Jacksonville on Friday p.m. - avoid if possible. Not REALLY bad, just a bunch of nut cases on the road. Come through earlier in the day rather than take I-295.

6 laning of I-95 in St. Johns County (just south of Jax) begins in july along the entire length of the county, but probably no real problem in the extreme ealier stages.

I-95 the rst of the way to the Port is clear sailing. Take Rte. 528 east off of I-95 & follow that straight to the Port.

Have Fun!!
