So DH and I are looking at taking DSS down to DLR next November and we are going to drive to save money. We are planning on taking two full days to drive down and arriving on the third day. We are trying to figure out where we should stop and any hotels that would be good. We will be going down from Victoria on BC Ferries through Vancouver and down the Oregon Coast. Any help would be awesome!

One thought about November.... daylight.

While the Oregon coast is beautiful. There is no street lights and many segments are single lane. If a truck is behind you.... the light can be blinding with no place to pull over for several miles. Recommend planning the drive when daylight is available.

If a problem.... detour to I-5 where there the highway is multilane and cats eyes makes it better to drive. Then again.... if snow is in the forecast.... the Oregon Coast will less likely have snow.

I looked at doing this same drive and if I remember correctly there is one pass in Northern CA where you need chains (or was it snow tires!) from Oct-Feb.

If I can find any info about this I will post it here!

Many friends and family tend to take the Coho rather than the BC ferry due to less time at the border. The Peace Arch crossing can really back up if you aren't on the 7am boat. We took the 9am boat one time never again. 3hrs at the border . All volume not a long weekend

Ah! I wasn't notified that people were posting on this thread. I had another in the DLR section that it told me about. We are travelling down the I-5 and using an itinerary that someone suggested to us. We are taking BC Ferries because we have a 13 hours drive the first day and want to get started right away first thing rather than waiting for the Coho and not really starting our drive until noon.
