Road Trip! (Like a bad penny, I have returned.)

I have been blessed with a job interview next Wednesday. I would like to have this job very much since it involve care from cradle to grave and they do a lot of clinical trials. This could be really awesome!

I have to tell Gabby that when she is driving home from FL that I will be driving down to FL, which will be greeted with a groan I am sure, since we have not seen each other since the morning of the 7th of last month and are both miserable having been apart so long, but at the same time, the prospect of me getting a rewarding job so close to what will be our new home is really great and I think will keep her from getting too grumpy.

Wish me luck please! I have had several positions call me back or ask for more info, but this one actually wants me in their office, so that is a very good sign as best as I can tell.

I am very hopeful that this will work out well. I just did the google map direction thing from our new address to this work place and was stunned to find out that it is exactly half a mile from our new home! I can walk or Majesty scooter my way to work on pretty days and I can come home for lunch every day also. This would be such a great opportunity.

Gabby did grumble a little, but the prospect of a solid lead on a job, well she got over it really quick.

Thanks! I went out today and bought an interview outfit. I had to send pictures to Gabby for approval, which she did not get back to me on until after the purchase because she was feeding alpachas and stuff. She thinks that I look good in it and honestly, the pictures do not do the clothes justice. If I can be so bold, I have always looked good wearing a vest and I am glad to report that I still can wear that look well.

Never in my adulthood have I owned a proper professional interview or even funeral worthy outfit. I have always managed to avoid the need, but today, I bought the clothes that can be used for either event. I have always carried a certain superstition about having "that black outfit" because to me it meant that I knew that if I had it, I would be called upon to use it for my Dad's funeral. In my head, as long as I did not have the proper clothes, he would not die. I know it's not the exact way that things really go, but until now, it has worked for me and him.

Anyway, I have a new pair of dress pants, socks, black shoes, the black vest, and this really comfy grey sweater like shirt. I hope it was worth the $200 that I dropped on it. I could have spent that money on a lot more fun things if I had been given the chance. Normally, I would go to a job interview in scrubs, but being that this job has potential to lead me to an office manager position, I want the first impression to be one that leaves them with that sort of image of me in their heads from the beginning of our relationship, which I am really hoping there is going to be a relationship. I really would love to be only a half mile away from work and just knowing that there is no job limbo, well that is just about priceless.

Ok, so the bag is packed with clothes, shoes, meds and other assorted things. I have directions printed for all stops along the way. Gabby and I are going to make every effort to meet somewhere along the way to have a chance to sit and reconnect for a few.

Tomorrow morning is the interview and then afterwards the real estate lady is going to meet me at the subdivision so that I can see our new home.

From there, it's a long journey back to Atlanta and then back to work here on Thursday. It's going to be a very quick trip, but I am praying that it will be a very productive trip too.

I'm back. What a whirlwind that was?!?! I did not get the job that was immediately available, however, I believe that I made a good/great impression upon them and there is a position coming open at the end of November, early December that I am in the running for. So, it was not a wasted trip.

I got to see our new house for myself. Gabby did a great job picking out our new house. I love the space. It's going to be a lot of fun to decorate. Now, I just have to convience Gabby to use the tiny 4th bedroom as an office instead of the room for Baby M. The 4th bedroom is just too small to be made into a permanent room for our little visitor. I think that her room needs to be the bedroom in the middle of the three. That leaves the great room and the front bedroom, which is almost as big as the master. I am not sure what exactly we are doing with that yet. We know that we want to keep that front bedroom window open for a Christmas tree at the holidays. I would sort of like to keep the pets out of there. I know that we are going to need a room for "our" kid that Gabby still is pretty set on wanting. I really don't know yet. My mind has been mulling over paint colors for the rooms all the way home.

Overall, it was a good trip. I am hopeful that there will be good news to follow. Back to job hunting for now.

The main thing that I have got to try to not forget to do right now is to send them a thank you note for the interview. This weekend is going to be super busy trying to get things started toward being packed up.

Good luck with the paint colors!!! It took us FIVE years to decide! We finally went with the multi color approach. All are complimentary, and flow from one room to the other. It took some doing, but worked out well.

I'm looking at paper for the master bedroom (on one wall)... with paint for the remaining walls... (Nope, the five years didn't settle the master bedroom colors)! LOLOL. (Working on seven years and counting now for that room)!

We close on the new house on the 12th. Gabby has a business conference in Orlando that starts the Thursday before Thanksgiving and doesn't end until the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. She is going to stay in Florida to do Thanksgiving with her family too.

Once the keys to the house are ours, we have to quickly force through a request to put up a PVC privacy fence around our back yard. In addition to that, we need to install a cat door into the patio door, so that we can let the cats become indoor/outdoor creatures again, which will allow us to ditch the litterbox. We also need to put down the cork floor in the great room, so that will need to be put down before we move in also.

So, basically, until I get a job, there is no rush to get moved down. For every trip that Gabby makes down to FL from the trip down for the inspection in a couple of weeks and forward, she will be taking a trunk load of stuff down to be moved into the house. I will need to work out a 2 week notice, unless there is an opportunity that arises that is worthy of asking my Docs if they are willing to waive the 2 week notice. I am very hopeful that our move with be complete before the end of the year.

I have put in 5 more resumes/applications in the past couple of days. While I would love to have the job that I interviewed for, until I know that I am hired, I am still in full on job seeking mode.

In talking to moms today at work telling them that I am leaving, I had three of them break down in tears. I am glad that life is moving on, but I am certainly making a lot of people sad in the process. I am trying to reassure them all, but it's not working out very well. I told the Doc that was there today that I had made 3 moms cry today and she said, it will be ok, I have faith that you will be back. I told her that I am really going and that I am really not coming back. She just shook her head smiled and said, I am just keeping the faith and expecting you to be back. I love the woman, but I keep hearing from my coworkers that neither of the bosses really thinks that I am leaving, despite the fact that I have been quite clear with them for some time now that we are planning to move, that we bought a house, and that I am actively seeking employment in FL. Also, let's not forget that I offered them an option to keep me by allowing me to work from home, which they declined. I just don't get it.

Yeah, the paint color thing is driving me nuts. The house has so many sight lines into other rooms that it's kind of a challenge to find the right combination that will work with the colors of the woods and the existing furniture that we are going to bring into the house. There are inset/plant shelf areas in the great room that will need to have a complimentary color to paint inside there. The wall that is between the great room and the kitchen has a pass through window and aboout 70% of it does not fully extend to the ceiling. I am hoping to work out a color combo that will allow for the wall that runs the length of the kitchen and the great room to be painted a nice bold color that will work in both rooms and to then find complimentary colors to use in the kitchen, foyer, great room, and hallway to the bedrooms and 2nd bath. Gabby wants to do the bedroom in blue, but I really don't think that I want a blue bedroom. I would prefer something a little more warm and relaxing. Basically, it's going to be a lot of looking at paint chips, which we can do now after our visit to Home Depot this evening.

Nothing more invigorating than two women trying to decide on a color scheme!

Look at mochas and cafe au lait colors for the blending areas... we found salvation in using a rich mocha (not brown!) on a primary wall which extends from the first floor to the second floor (talk about a challenge). The first floor colors riffing off that were done in shades of green (soft greens). The second floor shades veered off into a lighter mocha (add a LOT of cream to that coffee ) and seafoam... kind of a greenish blue, or blueish green...

As I said before, the bedrooms remain white.

Get loads and loads and LOADS of color chips. Once you've found something you think you like, really do invest in a small can (you can get really small cans at Home Depot) of the colors and try it out on the walls. It makes a world of difference. The walls will absorb the paint (unlike the poster board trick) and will change the color...

At any rate, I'm happy we managed to come up with what we have but it doesn't make the remaining colors any easier to agree upon! LOL.

We've been living in our home for 6 years and have yet to fix the paint! It started out not our taste, but, not unreasonable (i.e. nobody else notices that the main colour is a pink tinge) and we just can't figure out what to do and find the time/energy/money to change things. I've started to think that the answer is to actually start with the bedrooms since then we can look for something that compliments our bedroom colour choices.
