Would like to do a short road trip, but need suggestions. I'm always up for new ideas & thought you all would have some ideas of "off the beaten path" or places I'm not aware of. I am open to any & ALL suggestions!

Background...........I am a travel adventurer at heart. This year I have been to Maui (with daughter) Alaska (to see best friend), Montana (daughter lives there), Iowa (for a concert), Florida (beach vacation with family)..........now I have 4 days off & thought I would go somewhere to unwind! I want a relaxing vacation, with water or fall foilage.........beautiful scenery for sure...........perferably sunny weather..........I plan on leaving Kansas (just south of Topeka) at noon on Thursday Oct 27th & dont have to be back until Halloween day/evening sometime. I don't mind driving, but really you can only drive so far and it be a relaxing trip. I may or may not have my 10 year old with me. I thought about Arches National Park, but not sure that might not just be a wee bit far for the amt of time I have (13 hours), but I might drive 15 to be by a beach! HA

REady, set, GO!! I am ready to plan ;) Thanks for your help!

Northern New Mexico/Southern Colorado?
You could go from Kansas to Taos, then up through Chama, and hit Great Sand Dunes NP on you way back home. There are several other small national monuments along the way.

How about North into Wisconsin. Stop in the Dells and take a tour on the Wisconsin River, maybe ride the Ducks. If you have your 10 year old, you could stay at a waterpark hotel - I'm sure he/she would love that! Or how about Mammoth Cave in Kentucky?
