This summer my family and I are planning on going on a road trip in Italy and Croatia (we drove down the Croatian coast 7 years ago and absolutely loved it). We´ve never been to Italy (well, DH went as a kid) and so we´re all super excited. :woohoo:
If any of you have been to these places, I´d love to hear your tips on what to see and do. Especially if there are fun things for kids and teens (traveling w. 5 kids).:goodvibes

We´re flying into Rome and will spent 5 days there, staying at a hotel in the city center. We plan on visiting the at least the Vatican and the Colosseum.
We´ll then rent a car and drive down to Napoli ( 1 night) and then the Amalfi coast.

From there we´ll cross over to Bari, from where we´ll catch a ferry to Dubrovnik, Croatia. We plan on staying for approx. 5 nights in Dubrovnik and then driving to Split to stay there for another 5-6 nights.

After Split we plan to drive up the coastline and to Padova, Italy. We´re planning on 5 nights in Padova and will go to Venice and Verona while there.

From there we´ll drive to Milan and spend 2 nights before we fly back home out of Milan. We have no idea yet what to do in Milan and would love some ideas!

Sounds like a great vacation. What's it like in Iceland? I think everyone in USA thinks Iceland is a big block of ice, but I've heard that its actually very green. Is it very cold there now?

You´re right, Iceland is actually very green w. winter temps much warmer than for example New York. However, we also do have glaciers and summer temps are considerably cooler than where you are. We have long dark winters but beautiful long summer nights, with midnight sun in June. It´s a beautiful country with lots of mountains, volcanoes, glaciers, waterfalls, hot springs, the Blue Lagoon, geysers, etc.

I hear Reykjavic is a major major party town, is this true? Very "happening" bar scene, if you pardon the expression. :rotfl:

Yes, it´s true. The city center has a very vibrant nightlife, especially in the summer. Most clubs are open until 5-6 in the morning ;)

As a lot of Air Force folks can tell you, the "block of ice" is actually Greenland. Ironic, no?

Yes I've heard Icelands very green, and Greenland is very icy, the original inhabitants chose those names to protect their women from invading Viking Warriors. Or so goes the tale. ;)

Iceland (the Capitol) is on my list of places to check out eventually, because I've heard that the party scene there is unlike anywhere else, except maybe South Beach Miami.

The capitol is Reykjavik and you really should come some day!
