Anybody remember this series? It ran on the Disney Channel in the late 80's/early 90's, I think. It was from the same production company that made the Anne of Green Gables movies and is based on other stories by LM Montgomery.

I just started watching it on DVD and I still love it as much as I did when I was a kid! I remember having such a crush on Gus Pike and I got so mad that he married Felicity!

I wish there were some television shows like this on the air today!

I remember it too! I think it's way better than the Little House on the Prairie TV series. That and the scenery is absolutely stunning.

OMG i loved that show i been thinking about ordering the dvds for all the seasons online to watch

The scenery is so gorgeous! It actually inspired me to plan a trip to Prince Edward Island for next year.

I used to watch it on CBC (Canadian Broadcasting) We live in Detroit so we get one Canada station. I loved it. They (wonderworks) did an Emily of the new moon and an 3rd Anne of Green Gables movie (not really based on the books at all, it was after she was married, but it was more based on the books of her youngest daughter during the war.

All of them are very good. :thumbsup2

I was thinking about renting them on net flex, they are all in my queue but I think DD will enjoy them more when she is just a tad older and she can watch them with me. I would love to own them all on DVD. I have the Anne movies on VHS. I love Megan Follows (Porter).

That was a really good show, I too liked Gus. I wished TV was that good again.

I missed the second part of the finale!!! We had a VCR then and had a power failure and it never taped. I was heart-broken! Gus was adorable.

I watched it on PBS in about 1988. LOVED it! Bought it on VHS and then bought the others as they came about. Just this year my 8y/o daughter read the book and watched them! Also, the book Anne of Green Gables is an AR book so she read that (first, before watching the movie) and got 14 AR points for it! She LOVED that!

I still see the odd actor here and there who may have played a very small role and Ill always yell out "Hey! She was in Anne of Green Gables!" Nobody ever knows what Im talking about! :lmao: :lmao: Does the kid (man now I guess) who played Gilbert Blythe still act?

Wouldnt you JUST LOVE vacationing at Prince Edward Island? That used to be a dream of mine. (a little secret of mine, just between you and me... I kinda like the dresses they wear in those movies!)

I haven't seen the movie, but based on your description, the movie is based on a book from the Anne series. There are 8 books in the series--I remember spending one summer in the late 80's trying to track down all 8 books, not an easy feat at the pre-Amazon days.

It would sound that way, but it wasn't at all. I have all the books (but it has been a good 10 years since I read them.) This movie was off on the time line. It was set during the war. 1st Gilbert and Anne lived in the City, he was a new doctor and she was working as a journalist and writer (and wrote under a male Suriname.) Then the war hit Canada and Gilbert went off to fight. He was lost and Anne went after him, along the way adopting a war baby. Nothing like the 8 books of her life. A little bit like her youngest daughter Rilla, who did grow up during the war and did adopt a war baby. It was out on DVD. Let me do a search and see what I can find.

Even though it was nothing like the books, it still was a good series and fun to watch just to see everyone and think of an alternative ending to the story. Even the wonderworks movie departs from the text some (the whole rich widow was never in the books.) but the stayed true to the feel of the stories and I love them both.

I have all the books, but I know my brother bought my mom a complete set at borders last year (hers got lost and she was mad.)

I remember once a few years ago both Megan Follows Porter and Paul Grosse (Due South) were staring the Strafford festive for Romeo and Juliet. I wanted to go so bad, but it just wasn't possible that year. Too bad, I love them both. Paul Groose is super hot.

Ok, here is what I have found, but it isn't what I was looking for. There was this great site all dedicated to all Sullivan productions and I can't seem to find it.

Here is a site with info on Anne of Green Gables Continued movie (2000)

If you look at other links, there are sections for Road to Avonlea and other series. It looks like it is someone hobby (or obsession.)

Edited to add, found the site I wanted. This is a great one!

Yep, Jonathan Crombie is still acting... some movies/TV but mostly a lot of theater in Canada.

Looks like plans for an Anne 4 are in the works... Anne 3 was gawddawful... this one seems to be a prequel to the actual books... they're accepting auditions for the part of Anne via Youtube... wow...

You know, I don't know how interested in that I really am. They did a lot about her early life and how miserable it was BEFORE coming to green gabbles. Just not sure about focusing so much on that. The movie never seems to get going until you get past it. Much like Harry potter in that way. Necessary to understand the character, but not nearly as much fun.

I loved that show! I remember when the previews for Dawn of the Dead came out, I recognized Sarah Polley, who was in the series. I almost wanted to see Dawn of the Dead just because she was in it, but I can't do zombie movies. Are there DVDs for it? I would love to see it again, esp. when DD is older.

I just finished watching Anne of green gables. it is my movie that I netflixed this week and Anne of Avonlee is my next movie!

ITA. And I don't know how you'd end that movie happily unless you somehow also include some of the events from the first book, KWIM?

Googled a few more sites about this project. Apparently Penguin Books is planning to publish its own Anne prequel in '08, both the movie and book for the 100th anniversary of AoGG. Problem is, these are two separate projects - two stories - and the book, not the movie, has the blessing of LM Motgomery's heirs.

(The LMM family has had its battles with Kevin Sullivan in the past - they had a profit-sharing agreement and after the movies became so huge, they accused him of backing out on their contract. He wouldn't let them audit his records and sued for defamation. A judge threw out his suit in '04. This is the first Anne project since then.)

I love the Anne movies!

I made sure to buy them before my surgery-- I spent my recovery watching (and crying!) with those and the first two seasons of Grey's Anatomy!
