Are other areas having the same sort of problems?

A 24 year old, mother of twin 21 month old daughters was killed two weeks ago in a Road rage incident. Witnesses say that the car was tailgating her in the middle lane(traffic was backed up on both sides) and once the rear car was able to get clear, he sped up, cut in front of her, then slammed on the brakes. She swerved to avoid him, lost control, and flipped off the highway. He continued on his merry way and still hasn't been found.

A similar thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago; a van was stuck in traffic caused by a left turn only lane backing up into the left travel lane. I went around it in the middle lane, then switched into the left lane; he was trying to scoot out as I was passing, and got pissed at me. (He didn't have a signal on) He was able to scoot out after I passed him. I saw him speed over to the far right lane, then he crossed three lanes to get in front of me, where he slammed on his brakes. I was able to stop without incident, but it upset me that someone was angry enough to want to hurt or kill me. He and his passenger continued to yell profanities at me, so I slowed down and let them get way ahead of me. I came up near them again a few miles down the road (after many lights, etc) and they continued to yell and flip me the bird.

There will be a special about these sort of incidents on our local TV station tonight, so I'll have to watch.

Has anyone else had this sort of experience?

I'd have no problem hittin the 9 on my cell phone and reporting the plate ## to the dispatch!

I saw a jerk do this to another driver years ago.

A few months ago, I was driving and a Cadillac was tailgating me. There was another car in the other lane, so the Cadi couldn't pass either one of us. I decided to switch lanes and before I even had a chance to fully switch lanes, the jerk passed me, he came sooooo close to hitting me.

I always think that people are basically good and "with it" mentally, but the fact is that isn't the case.

This last Friday night at around 6:30pm, my 11 yo granddaughter and her friend were coming home after horseback riding with the friend's mother driving. Going thru an intersection a car pulled out and she almost hit it. The other driver got mad and started following them and passed, only to pull over, get out of his car, and yell obsentities at her as she passed by. He then proceeded to tailgate and bump her rear end. She called 911 on her cell phone, and the police were there in 2 minutes. Three cop cars , they arrested the jerk and took him away.

It was a very scay incident, and thank god nothing worse happened.

Good that the jerk was arrested and that they were safe.

We've had many deaths in my area due to road rage. I don't mean just running someone off the road or accidents either- I'm talking throats slashed, people being shot, etc... It's gotten so bad that police in MA and RI have pledged to do something about it, but I haven't seen any decrease.

My dad was on his way to work (driving on a busy 4 lane road) and stopped to get coffee at a convienent store. Right in front of him two cars pulled into the same parking lot, a man got out of one and started beating the man from the other car while yelling about cutting him off. The man getting beaten's wife got out of the car and was screaming and crying. My dad called the police and they arrested the guy.

It's just not worth it to stress out about stuff on the highways. I drive an hour and a half each way to school and see little bouts of road rage all the time. I try to mind my own business as much as possible. It's made me a much calmer driver.
