Road Rage Incident

Cell phones are a wonderful invention interms of road rage.

I have had people start to go off on me when I won't make a right turn on red when there is a sign that says "NO right turn on red". Apparently the people in the cra behind me feel I should just ignore the sign and turn anyhow.

I get the tooting, and then the screaming. One guy opened his car door and started to get out until I waved my cell phone out the window.

I called the cops anyway.

I had a lunatic chase me down once, it was terrible. I think he was strung out of drugs and hallucinating. The next day I went in to my local AAA and changed my license plate. I felt much better after that

I would like to think that this guy was just having a really bad day and you were the straw that broke the camel's back. But in all likelyhood, he is a nut who is ready to crack and you were just one of many people that he treats badly each day. Unless he took down your license plate and has a way to find you, I wouldn't worry about him. If you see him again though and he does anything suspicious, call 911.

Then their thread would read "I was driving back to the office after lunch and this person was up my butt! So I pulled over to let them pass and show how it feels to be tailgated! Some people need to learn how to drive!!"

Sorry but I couldn't resist! I'm not saying this person was rational but are you sure you weren't tailgating?

I had something similar to this happen to me a few years ago. Scared me to death since this guy got out of his car and stood in the middle of the road screaming and cursing at me. The next day ( we both drove the same route at the same time 5 days a wek) I got his tag number and called the sheriff.

It sucks but it happens.

If he went off in a different direction after yelling and tailgating, instead of following you I am betting the incident is over for him. I wouldn't be too woried.

OP, try not to worry. I let myself get terrified when a road rage incident happened to my husband. A guy actually followed him from a nearby town, across the bridge, and into our development to yell at him for cutting him off. If my husband did cut him off, it certainly wasn't intentional.
My husband wasn't sure if he was being followed at first because that path is a well-traveled one but when the guy turned into our development behind him, my husband got very concerned. Thankfully, my husband had the sense to stop at the entrance to our development instead of continuing on to our house. They guy got out of his car and approached my husband. When he saw my husband holding the phone getting ready to dial 911 he fled.

Well.......my husband NEVER should have told me that story. It terrified me. I was convinced the guy was going to hunt us down. I made sure the garage door was closed so he couldn't drive through the neighborhood looking for my husband's car and, therfore, find our house. Then I thought my daughter's club soccer decal is on my husband's car with her name and number. It could lead to the team's website which by connecting her last name, he could gather that the manager was her mom (Me) and get our phone number which could lead to our address.



I just couldn't shake my anxiety about it. Now, when I type this all out, I am laughing. It all sounds so silly. I just wanted to share how our anxiety can get the best of us. Try to relax and realize that the incident is over. That guy probably realizes he was an idiot to you and is hoping he NEVER sees you again.

Try to get a good night's sleep.

Every time I hear about road rage I think of my Dad's motorcycle accident. One guy cut off another and they started "fighting" with each other using their vehicles to cut each other off, My dad comes by on his bike and ends up getting hit by the pickup truck involved, he goes down, gets the bike back up and then gets hit again. The truck flipped. Dad ended up in ICU with 5 broken ribs and a broken clavicle.

I don't care if the OP was riding this guy's bumper for 20 minutes, it does not justify what he did. I hate tailgaters with a passion. If one gets behind me, I simply tap my brake lights and gradually slow down as I was taught to do. This way they either get the hint and back off, or pass me. Most people I don't think even realize they are doing it and will promptly back off. Slamming on your brakes like this guy did is a surefire way to get rear ended if the person truly is tailgating.

Actually I was assuming it's her shirt number and her last name, but either way, too many wackos. Wackos that will look for whomever has that name/number combo.

Well here if you rear-end someone it's automatically your fault, no matter if the person slammed on their brakes or not. So perhaps he thought he might make the OP hit him causing an accident that was her fault? No it doesn't justify his actions (which I stated earlier) but sometimes people don't realize how close they are or how close they LOOK, which has been the cause of me getting annoyed with someone behind me a time or ten.

LOL In Oregon & Idaho they call them Californians....I hate going to visit my family in Idaho. LOL Everyone assumes I'm going to speed, tailgate, drive erratically weaving in and out of traffic etc etc...it's always nice to prove them wong. LOL

No, not her phone number - her jersey number. It also has her first name and team name.


Is this just a regional thing in Baltimore/DC/Philly area? I never thought that much about it until that road rage incident happened. It seems that everyone who has a child on a club/travel team has a sticker with that info. Although, now that I think about it, it is becoming more common to have just the team name and your child's jersey number on the sticker. Still, easy enough to look up that info on the internet. Right now I just have a decal of a player and my daughters' numbers - no team name at all.

The worst road rage I ever saw was in Virginia. I was about #3 in a line of cars 3 lanes wide pulling to a redlight. I am guessing at the redlight, car #1 in one of the lanes must have cut off car #2 behind him. All of a sudden the man in car #2 got out of his car and approached car #1. He had a baseball bat and began beating on the windshield of car #1. I was very scared that this could happen in daylight. The man must have really lost his mind. Luckily man #1 did not get out of his car.

This would have totally unnerved me too ... but try not to think about it anymore ... maybe he was just having a bad day, and unfortunately, took it out on you ... you'll probably never see him again ... but if you do, just call 911 and report him ...

Yep he fully recovered, I think he was more worried about the bike, which also recovered and still runs. We were just happy my mom didn't go with him when he offered, there is no way she would have survived it at 100#'s soaking wet. He had a lot more padding for protection.

Something similar happened to me years ago - before I carried a cell phone. I pulled out in front of a car (didn't see her coming around the blind corner) and the other driver went nuts on me for cutting her off (which I didn't mean to do!). She seemed so intent on following me and I was getting scared so I stopped at the nearest convenience store and leaned on my horn. The woman got out of her car to approach mine, but the manager came out. I asked him to call the police and the woman jumped back in her car and took off.
My mom had just told me about someone driving up to a store and blowing their horn for help, so it was fresh in my mind, otherwise I would have never thought of it. I knew there wasn't a fire or police station close by otherwise I would have stopped there instead.
Scary, I know, but most likely the other driver has already forgotten about it! Try to relax and forget about it!
