I'm considering getting a Road ID for Christmas. I think I want the shoe kind. I need feedback from those of you who have them or have friends who have them.

1. Which kind do they have?

2. Do they like it or wish they had a different kind?

3. How much info. did you put on it? i.e. drug allergies, how many contacts, etc.?

4. Is this a waste of money?

TIA WISHers! Y'all are the BEST!!!!

I have the kind that goes around my ankle. I like it! I put my name emergency contact, meds and an inspirational saying.
I don't go on out on my runs without it. If anything happens to me, at least someone could contact my family member.
To me - not a waste of money.

NO they are not a waste of money. I wear mine each and every time I leave for a bike ride or run. I am a survivor because of Road ID. February 2009 I was running on a well known SE Florida island. Crossing a street I was hit and run by a mustang making an illegal left hand turn. That collision left me in the middle of the road on my back. Then all of a sudden I saw a set of headlights just above my head. The driver of the second vehicle saw the reflective strip in my Road ID and it scared her enough to stop, very very thankfully. You never want to be a Jane Doe waiting for someone to make a decision. Here is a photo from the marathon just 4 weeks earlier - can you spot the RoadID (fitfth photo down - look for Texas Shorts)

#3 – if you are confused call and ask. They are very helpful and willing to work with you. My brother is a director of an EMT service and he is a big help in helping me with mine.

You want at a minimum – name, home phone (with partner’s name), partner’s or other person’s cell or phone. Next if you have a condition that you really need to tell someone about when you walk into an urgent care facility, it needs to be on the ID to speak for you. Especially allergies or other urgent issues. Dud (Bro) said put NKA – no known allergies if you have none. I put my blood type even though it is readily typed and LoPulse since my resting HR is around 40. I do not want to have the techs push adrenaline noting a lo pulse if I have an internal bleed.

Here is where the ID folks and I differ. Dud said put your DL number on the ID. At least in his area, PD or SD would look up the DL to confirm ID and if the news were not so good, roll to the house to let Mary know.

1-2# I own both ankle and wrist ID’s. The shoe ID is really the worst one to own. How many times have you seen a wreck on the news and noticed the victim’s shoes lying in the road. Chances are your shoes are not making the trip to the hospital if you are involved with a car. With an ankle or wrist ID you have reflective material on all sides and it is moving. I run with a wrist ID because the second area pulse is checked after the neck is the wrist. RoadID makes a compelling case for the dog tag version. It is with you all the time so if you are at the gym and have an incident it will be with you; when you DL would be in a locker or in a hotel room.

Hope this helps. Regardless of whether you choose RoadID or not please carry ID with you anytime you leave the house. RoadID is nice because the colors are noticeable. They also offer a ‘call in’ version for those who have lots of medical issues. I don’t so I cannot comment on that. Just know that if you are found on the roadside, the tech on the truck will call that number if you are wearing the ID.

Also, for everyone reading this post…..since we are coming up to race day, please take your free sharpie of WDW Resort pen and fill out the back of your bib. You need your name and a contact at a minimum. Allergies and other issues are nice. I work as a roving medical assistant and finish lines at several races and you do not know haow many times we really need that info. Plus in the years I have been at Disney we have had two unfortunate days. I just hate to think that loved ones would not get informed in a timely manner if it were to happen again. I don’t mean to be a doom and gloomer, but really want everyone to be as safe as possible.

Thanks Charles. Glad to hear your input on the shoe, since that is the one I was considering getting. Never though about my shoe possibly leaving my body. I just worried about the wrist or ankle rubbing and bothering my skin. I'm not usually sensitive to such things, but you don't know until you try.

I do run with ID. I always run with my license in my pocket. I've always said I would want someone to be able to ID my body if something ever did happen, heaven forbid. I also run with my cell phone which has all my contacts, so they could at least call a family member too.

I've been up in the air about the shoe version and the wrist version. I think the new wrist version would be better since it is rubber. Seems like it wouldn't hold the sweat smell as bad as the other kind.

Thanks for your input.

Terri - Thanks for your input too. That is why I want one, so that if anything ever happened. They would know who to contact.

I would still love to hear from others. Still deciding......:rolleyes1

I have the shoe kind. I know its true what Charles said about the shoe not always making it with the body etc but I know I won't remember to put on the wrist or the ankle thing and I am assuming it would be annoying - to me anyway. On mine I have my name and my city, my Dh;s cell number, my sister's cell number and my dad's cell number. Now that I have more than one pair of shoes that I am using for my runs I need to get another one - gee that would mean I should look into the wrist or ankle one. Ugh

I have the new wrist band elite and I love it.

I use mine as a medical ID and it NEVER comes off.

The only problem that I have had is that my sunblock bleached the underside.....so now its pink onside and purple the other......I really like the new color!!!!!

I used to have a 14K gold id and it go so scratched it was a waste of $$$. Thats why I went to road ID.

Thanks Syko! My Buzzie teammate.

I know this is going to sound very vain, but the reason why I am leery of the wrist and ankle band is because I don't like having a runner's tan. ;) If it is on my shoe, it doesn't leave a mark, but Charles brought up a good point about my shoe getting separated from me. So, I'm still thinking............

I have the dog tag design. I wear it ALWAYS! Even in a car accident, the Road ID is the perfect way for EMT's to have information about you! Plus, since I always have it on, I nver leave home without it! :rotfl:

I have the wrist version and so does my husband. It contains our names, 2 telephone numbers and city & state along with a quote. I always run with it. As a 1st responder I would look towards a wrist 1st since people have been wearing medical alert bracelets for so long.

I bought one for myself last year. I put it on my shoe and it has not come off. I would forget to put one on my wrist evertime I went running, so this was the best solution.

I just bought the ankle one for my brother that does 3 hour long mountain bike rides. I think it is a great investment.

I have the wrist version as well and don't ever notice it while running. Mine just has my name on it and a phone number/website to contact for all my information. It costs about $10/yr for the service. I wouldn't necessarily have chosen this version (it was a gift) but I think it's definitely worth it. I keep all my info updated through the website (emergency contact, health conditions, allergies, etc).

Kind of funny story... a few years ago it was just before our anniversary and my boyfriend called asking me to measure my wrist with a dollar bill. You can guess what I was thinking:love: On our anniversary I got my Road ID:rotfl2:

What a timely thread. I'm thinking about getting a Road ID and have been trying to figure out what version to get.

I'm probably missing something obvious here, but what does DL stand for in this context?

Another silly question, but the dog tag design is for wearing around the neck right? Does it bounce or bother you while you're running?

At least you know he cares about your safety! I'm probably going to get the interactive version like you have for a couple reasons. First, I'm moving soon so I don't want to have to order a second one in a couple months. Second, I want to be able to list all my prescriptions, doctors, etc. which just wouldn't fit on a standard Road ID tag.

The only thing I was worried about is that I thought I read somewhere that the emergency responders wouldn't necessarily have access to the Internet to see the info on the website. But then I noticed that they can call by phone for the information too, and everyone has access to a phone, right?

I'm curious if anyone else has thoughts about the original versus interactive. Thanks!

Sorry I work in the environmental world where everyone uses acronymns and I some times forget to explain..

DL = Drivers License Number

As far as bouncing with the dog tag... I never had an issue with little metal tags hanging around the neck in an earlier life.

With the interactive version vs the traditional. If you need to get information to the first responder or ER staff that will not fit on the tag, you should use the interactive version.

Note that if you move and your tag data changes, call ROADID as they have replacement pricing for the tag. It is only velcroed to the strap.

Continuing with the wrist vs ankle and whether they bother you. You do wear a watch while running, correct? It's exactly the same. it is a both at first, not noticable next and a naked feel after a while. Thank god for the naked feel....I had left my hotel room w/o the RoadID the morning of my accident.

I also launder my ID about every 2-4 weeks.

I have had the shoe version for over 2 years. It never comes off the shoe until I put it on a new pair.

I have name, hometown & state, year of birth, blood type, wife's cell number NKDA (no drug allergies.)

The ID is something my wife asked me to get for a long time. I do most of my running alone, so it made sense to get one.

Hope this helps

Now, I know I'm not worried about the shoe version coming off, but what if my shoe comes off of my body. If that happened, I would be in pretty bad shape, and they wouldn't have my info. if my shoe is off in a ditch somewhere. Something to think about......

I have to say I have never considered the dog tag version, but y'all have me considering it now. It would cure my vanity (tan line) problem, plus you get an extra line for info. I would probably get the silencer for it, so it doesn't make any noise when I run. Plus, as Connie pointed out, it could be beneficial in other instances too.

Now, I've got to decide and order.

Thanks everybody!!!:grouphug:

I just bought a RoadID wrist bracelet a couple weeks ago. I got the regular one in red because it's an emergency color (and I like red). Now whenever I leave the house to do something sports-related I wear my RoadID. When I run I have RoadID on my right wrist and Garmin on my left and it only took me a day or two to get used to it even though I'm not a bracelet person. I do make it a point to wear it so the ID part is on the inside of my wrist so everyone I run into can't read my name, etc. though.

I chose what's on it based on the RoadID website and having read some of the horrifying testimonials (hey they lived to tell about it) from the RoadID website.

Mine has:

First & Last Name/ Year of Birth
City, State, USA (I travel abroad)
Home #
Mom's cell
Sis cell
NKDA (no known drug allergies), blood type, no med hx (no med history)

I wear it even when I'm out running/playing sports with friends because my friends don't have my house #, mom's cell or my sister's cell and I don't always carry my own cellphone with me. It also makes me feel safer.

I didn't go with the shoe tag for the same reason Charles noted above. I went with the wrist because as a former EMT we always checked wrists.

I did look into the wrist elite with the website access but I don't have medical issues that require that kind of cataloging and I didn't feel like I wanted to worry about emergency services surfing the web looking for my info. I think if I had significant medical issues (or if it was a gift. LOL) I'd seriously consider it.

As for carrying ID in the form of a Driver's license or document of some kind in your pocket/waistpack/etc. I always figure if it's permanently attached to you in some way it's less like to get lost or discarded. And, God forbid, if they have to cut off your clothes for some reason to work on you they may or may not take those extra seconds to look through your pockets.

With all the other stupid stuff I've spent $20 on in my life I figured this was probably the best way I could spend money.

Oh and Jeff (mkymsehi) is an affiliate of some kind and sometimes has coupon codes 10% off, etc. so you might want to message him if you're interested.

Hope that helps! :thumbsup2

I'm putting mine on right now. Going out for a run and I never run without it.

I choose the ankle version. Just didn't want anything else on my wrist. I never notice it.

I have:
Name
City, State
Home phone
Wife Cell
Daughter Cell
NKDA and Organ Donor

Not sure why I have city state but it was probably because they showed it on the site.

enjoy,
Duane

I have the ankle version. I use it for running and biking. It never bothers me. I wear quarter socks. I also have homemade tags in all of my shoes ('cause sometimes I forget). All the pertinent info printed and covered with packaging tape. Looped and taped like a D-chip in the laces.

I have the same information taped to the outside of my bike helmet. Hopefully that stays with me.

Ronda

I have the wrist ID for exactly the reasons mentioned. Also, if you bike as well as run, shoe ID doesn't work since you may not be wearing the same shoes. I have no tan lines from the wrist ID and have had it for about 4 years.
