Roach Infested Conditions Inside All Star Sports Room

Those little roaches are the ones that freak me out. Those are the ones you see infesting apartments and kitchens and it has nothing to do with weather. It could be below zero outside and they will be running all over the place. The palmetto/water bugs look much worse but I would much rather see them than than the small German roaches that come around for food and filth.
With that being said, I know when coming to Florida there isn't a foolproof way to keep all the bugs out. But here up north, if i see small roaches inside in the middle of winter, I am getting the heck out of there.

Oh but the guests that think they can. I once witnessed a guest give the staff the riot act because they couldn't eliminate the bees outside. This guest honestly expected them to remove every last bee. They even included the statement that for what we pay to stay here we shouldn't have to bother with them. I'll be the first to admit they get annoying but seriously, it's outdoors. What do you expect?

People are too much. DD was bitten by a bee at the Poly pool. I think the bee got into her mug and as we were walking out she screamed and dropped her cup. Two lifeguards came RUNNING with their first aid kits and were all over it before we even knew what had happened. It was amazing really. lol They gave her a bandaid and we were on our way. It sucks but it can happen anywhere.

This. Exactly. We live in Houston and get the same roaches. The big ones are scary, but it comes with living in a swamp. The little roaches are concerning.... that's a sign of filth and where there's one, there are 20 more. This poster is talking about little roaches, not palmetto bugs.

Exactly.

We had a Palmetto in the dishwasher at Silver Lake Resort right near AK this past March. Didn't faze us. We just kept our eyes open for more and there were none. And we washed those dishes again.

But if I found 3 roaches like that in the room, yeah, I'd be moving on. Knowing Disney they likely addressed the problem but still sucks to be in that situation to begin with. Ty op for the heads up.

I got stung once by one waiting in line for a ride. I certainly wasn't getting out of line, one must have their priorities. After we finished the ride my leg was swollen pretty big, I was going to ignore it, because well I'm a woman, but my son insisted we go to first aid. They searched for the stinger, slapped some ointment on it and stuck a big old bandage on it and asked what I wanted for my trouble. Seriously? I wanted my son to not have made me go to first aid, so I told them I was good and thanked them. They must get a lot of people thinking they should get some sort of reimbursement for such things but it's Florida, it's outside, bugs happen.

Florida is an E ticket ride for roaches.

All those open patio doors at Grand Floridian? Roaches in the bathrooms.

Class of room definitely has nothing to do with it. Bugs are bugs and can be anywhere--either local Florida bugs or brought in by one of the millions and millions of people from around the world who stay at Disney resorts at all levels every day year round!

I'll take 3 roaches (of any nationality) over the SNAKE NEST that was found in the curtains in the room at the Contemporary. There was a thread complete with photos here on the DIS. Go on...do a search. I dare ya!

But, you get what you pay for, right?

Just for the record for those who may be scared away from All Star Sports by this post. We were there for 5 nights in February. It was our first stay here. Our family had 4 preferred rooms in a row on the second floor of a Surf's Up building. None of us saw any roaches nor any other bugs in or around the room other than mosquitoes, which we really did not mind since we are from South Louisiana. We did see have a "vacation mascot" bunny rabbit our kiddos "walked" down the walkway every morning. :) We were all quite pleased with the resort, from ages 2 to 65.

A lot of palmetto bugs and other bugs have been searching for water with the lack of rain for so long. That might be why people are seeing more of them inside.

The only place I've seen roaches in WDW is sitting on the benches outside of space mountain with my back facing tomorrowland speedway. They're all over that place. Otherwise, I don't think I've seen one ever, in my life, anywhere.
Those little lizards are cute though. My DS(5) caught one while waiting in line for kali river rapids, and then dropped it when my wife screamed at it.
Good times.

I wish I hadn't read this thread, I'm terrified of that particular bug
I mean I know they can show up anywhere but still!

I have been to WDW multiple times a year for the past 25 years. I have NEVER encountered any roaches - ever.

I used to live in Houston and now live in New Orleans so I know about both big and little roaches. I also lived in Dallas a couple of times and had the worst problems there.

The little roaches are by far the worst - those are just disgusting. The big flying ones are more scary - but much easier to control.

Those Palmetto bugs, scare me to death. B52 of the flying cockroach world, no thanks. I've only seen them outside. Mostly by boat launches. GF! If that thing started flying around me, it would be the scream heard 'round the world!!
