RNR at rope drop/single rider?

I am trying to tweak my plans. I'm using the personalized TP and feel like my first 25 minutes at HS are wasted because I have a FP for 9:25 at TOT. The first thing on my plan is 9:25 TOT. I'd like to ride RNR too, but will probably do single rider line because DH won't ride it. Most times I've been to HS, either RNR and/or TOT are not open first thing. What are your experiences recently? Have they been opened reliably at rope drop? Is the single rider line open right away? It seems like I should be able to ride single rider RNR, then head over to TOT to use my FP. What do you think?

Ionly go to DHS once per trip and go every 3 years or so,so I can't state what "reliably" happens, but many people's strategy is to FP Toy Story or ToT and do RnR at rope drop. That was my strategy recently and it worked great. If you're there before scheduled park open, they seem to often open gate by 840-8:45 and if you head straight to RnR you can probably count on short lines until at least 9:25 when your ToT opens and get in more than one RnR if you want to. This was on a "moderately" crowded day for me.

Thanks, Mikie! I'll plan to head to RNR at rope drop. I hope it is up and running on my day there!

Go straight to RnR first. Your FP+ gives you am hour to use it, so you should have plenty of time to get back over to do it.

Sounds good. We usually only do one morning at HS yearly, and more often than not, RNR isn't working. I guess that's just coincidence and I should plan on it working!

In our experience, they often let guests through the gates early at DHS, like around 8:45. We usually go right to TSMM and that has always been open right away. But, I think they do often wait until 9 AM to open some of the other rides. I know once we got on and off TSMM and then went right to TOT and it was just letting people in at 9 AM.

There is always the possibility that any ride will be a little slow opening or go down. But, if you are there when the park opens and go right to RNRC you should be able get on and off pretty quickly. As a PP said, that early you probably wouldn't even need to go in the single rider line with a short wait, so I wouldn't worry if it isn't open.

If you have any interest in TSMM, you might consider going there first, then going to RNRC and going in the single rider line. You should be able to do both of those and be done in plenty of time to make the 9:20-10:20 FP at TOT. You'll have an even better chance of doing that if you arrive at DHS between 8:15 and 8:30 so you are in the first wave of people getting into the park. If you are in a line anywhere past the ticket booths you will be in great shape.

Every time I've gone, they hold guests outside RnRC until 9 am, and sometimes single rider isn't operating yet. But, you still have plenty of time to go straight to RnRC. Even if the line looks crazy long, once they let them in it will move very quickly. You'll be on and off and over to TOT with no problem at all. Remember that you don't have to get to ToT at 9:25. You have a one hour window.

We rode RNR three times last night around 6 pm single rider line, we just walked right through and got on these first limo each time. It was very quick. At rope drop I'm betting it would be similar

Agreed - except that I've had several times where the single rider line wasn't open yet at RD. But at that point the regular line should w pretty quick anyway.
I do single rider anytime the stand by is under 45 minutes. When it gets above that the single rider wait jumps with more people splitting up and joining it...

last time we were there (in 2012) the gates opened at 8:50 I ran to get fast passes at TSM and met my family at RNRC. We went straight into the preshow. We ended up riding it twice (both times straight into the preshow and that room wasn't even half way filled) and TOT 6 times before our 12:15 fast passes. The crowd level that day was a predicted 3.

I would see if you can swap out that 9:25 FP for something else. If you make a beeline for RnR when the park opens, you will get on it immediately, (no need to use the SR line...just use the regular line). By the time you finish that ride, head over to ToT. I'd be shocked if the SB line was more than 15 minutes long at that point. (By way of example, Touring Plans predicts that the wait at ToT won't hit the 20 minute mark until after 11:00 a.m. today.) The vast majority of Rope Droppers head for TSMM (and Jedi Sign-ups). While there will be a bit of a crowd headed down Sunset Blvd, it won't be enough to cause RnR or ToT to bog down. The SB wait at ToT rarely exceeds 15-20 minutes until the park has been open for 45 minutes to an hour. If you go to RnR at RD and then to ToT, you will get in line at ToT within 20 minutes of the park opening. I would not waste a FP for a ride that only has a 15 minute SB line. I would re-book that FP for later in the day when you actually will bypass a line.
