Excellent point. Partially dependent on room location, but yes -- Skyliner seems very practical from Beach Club, not really from Boardwalk.



For walking access to the parks, Boardwalk is probably still the best option: A reasonable walk to both Epcot and DHS. Though neither is a super short walk, again depending on room location partially.
For Epcot access alone -- Beach Club is the best choice, as it really is a short walk to the IG. While Skyliner from IG may be better than the boat dock, it's still not exactly ideal transportation -- In most cases, still probably over 30 minutes door to door. (putting aside wait times, about 7 minute walk to skyliner, 15 minutes to CBR on skyliner, at least 2-3 minutes to transfer minimum, 6 minutes to DHS... so minimum of 30 minutes.)
For DHS access alone: For walkers, BWV. But if you don't want a 15 minute walk, then Riviera is preferable.
For best non-walking access to both parks: Riviera. Might actually be slower than simply walking from Boardwalk, but it's faster to DHS than boats. (RIV skyliner: 9 minute direct to Epcot, about 15-20 minutes to DHS with transfer included).

We owned BWV around 8 years because of the fact the walk to both was doable and it seemed in the middle.

But we sold because my DH doesn’t come with us that much and it’s his favorite. Plus. As I mentioned, many of our group, have health issues that make the walk not a first choice.

Why I love RIV. It’s the best choice for all those who travel with us. And if the Skyliner is an issue, we’d just Uber. Even at night from Epcot we’d walk to BCV and Uber from there.

Not really. Argument could be made for Beach Club, not really Boardwalk. Though I guess I’d ask in practice— for those who have stayed at BWV since the Skyliner opened, do you take the boat to DHS, walk, or walk to Epcot in order to hop on the skyliner?

We always walk to DHS, to me its the same amount of time depending on if I catch the boat or not. Also my gut feeling is the walk to the Skyliner at Epcot is almost the same distance as the Skyliner at DHS from BWV depending on where your room is located.

I mean, I love them as a shareholder. It just isn't a system I would want to buy into, like any other timeshare.

As an owner, I'm not sure why you would want a bunch of third class resale buyers stuck booking out all your studios.

Huh? Why is a RIV resale owner any less worthy than any other owner?

As an owner of RIV, my chances of getting those studios are the same no matter how someone else purchased their contract.

Sure, but you'll be competing with all the locked down resale contracts that are stuck there and aren't booking at Aulani this year.

No different than any place else that have people booking at 11 months.

Now, changes in availability may not be as great since Once booked those people can’t go anywhere,

But, let’s be honest, it will be years at least before we see any type of impact. in which the number of resale points are enough to have any level of impact on booking at all.

I’m not sure that's really going to be much of a difference in impact due to the fact that those who are buying RIV resale are buying because they only intend to stay at RIV, and thus would likely do so with any points they bought if they could. I could be wrong though.

As most time efficient transport to the parks I agree but it still is an option. I just thought it was odd the way it was worded in the post I quoted.

I am very interested to hear why this is the case. I have a hunch I know the reason, but I'll refrain from speculation.

IF your on an island it's more like a continent because your not the only buying. It's just the naysayers are more vocal because the rest of us still can't catch our breath of excitement with RIV to even speak yet!

There's definitely a group of DVC members who believe resale buyers are second class citizens and that their points shouldn't be worth as much as the enlightened who buy direct from Disney.

That can cut both ways. Resale and direct can both conjure up reasons to look down their noses at each other. Which is funny, because a lot of people own both! And what you own today might be totally different than what your points mix looks like in 10 years. Best to stay humble, I think.

the best way to think about it i guess is anyones opinion on HOA. some people want no HOA (its my house i want to do with it whatever i please), some want a weak HOA (eh, i like some rules but dont tread to much), and some like really strong HOA (i dont want any jackbutt homeowners screwing around and driving down the price of the whole neighborhood, despite the high fee and stringent rules). we just fall in line with the third option.

we are hoping that resale restrictions collapse the resale market. 100% of the points we own (or have ever owned actually) have been bought through disney, and wish they exercised right of first refusal on all contracts. it depresses the value of the program and perks they can offer when someone can get in with the minimum direct buy in and then load up on cheap (er) resale contracts.
